View Full Version : Replacement ECU
Hey guys,
Is the ECU able to be replaced without touching the BEM, keyholes, or keys?
Are mits able to re-pair the ECU/BEM?
Does anybody know the costs for this?
I need to know this as I want to convert to a TCU with 4sp tippy support.
Before its suggested - I will *NOT* be flashing this ecu, and the immob will *NOT* be removed. *YET*
Thanks,
Dean

Wank factor man :P Why else do we do these things? :)
I got "Sports" written on the seats now, I need to replicate a sports now (Starting with options - Cruise, Power windows, Tiptronic).
Only problem is all this shit is linked together (ECU, BEM, Ignition, Doors, Keys) and could become complicated. I picked up the Cruise ECU today, so I'm ready to install cruise - Just waiting to do both at once now.

You will need the ECU and the engine harness as well as shifter of course
When all in, you will need to get the car towed to Mits to have the keys re learnt
Why you would not remove the immob and put an aftermarket one in has be totally beat, why you would not also get a better map put in has me even more beat

Thanks Mal, re: flashing/immob - Cost!
What exactly is different in the engine harness? (Keep in mind, 4sp tippy). I was under the impression it was the dash harness (which I have from a TH Sports).
Cheers,
Dean
Heres my parts list as of now:
- TH Sports Dash Harness
- TH Cruise Control Stalk
- TH Cruise Control Computer
- TH Clock Spring with Cruise Support
- Cruise Vacuum Pump (installed)
- Cruise Throttle Body (installed)
- Cruise Vac Line (installed)
From what I have gathered I need to obtain:
- 4sp Tippy ECU/TCU
- 4sp Tippy Shifter
- Engine bay harness (awaiting confirmation this was not a typo for dash harness?)
And, is it possible with the new wiring, to drive it to mits and swap ECU's there and then for the recode of the keys/ecu/bem?

The tiptronic shifter wiring is part of the engine loom
Cheers Mal, hopefully Christian still has that engine harness :)

such a lot of work for not much gain, should just do a manual/3.5L conversion, soooo much better than 3.0L auto, when i did it i was like woooo feels like a totally different car, and cost isnt much either, i saw a manual conversion kit get sold for like $300

I'm just trying to go with a spec upgrade first (get rid of the povpack) - Then i'll be looking into it.

Christ so much effort just so you can go up and down gears trying to imitate a laggy manual? Bugger that.
