View Full Version : crack in the bellhousing
I've managed to crack the bellhousing on the gearbox on the car. Presently, I'm looking for a replacement, but just out of curiosity, is it possible to repair it? The crack occured when the car bottomed out on a severe dip. (Springvale Road, Nunawading)

Ok,
I'm not gonna say this is a safe or correct option as I am purely trying to help and save you the hassle. On my TR I have had a piece missing out of my bell housing for 2 years and never had an issue. It is approximately 10cm long by about 2cm wide.
Would be beneficial to see a picture of this crack and how bad it is. From memory the bell housing can be changed without having to replace the whole shell / gearbox. I suppose it would depend where the crack is keeping in mind the gearbox is supported off your engine and engine mount. Load up a pic for all to see.
All the best,
Ben

Hi, yes, i believe it will be repairable, all you will have to do is find a reputable welder with the facilities to weld aluminium, weather or not it can be done in the car without pulling the box out will be up to the individual welder, if it's easy enough to get to i don't see why it should have to come out, i've had this sort of thing repaired before, hope this helps.
