Hey,
I did a search but coudlnt find anything similar.
I have a really loud screeching noise whenever I am at full lock.
Not sure what it is, everything else with steering seems to be fine.
Although I will be replacing the steering rack very soon, as it is losing oil. Other than that seems to steer fine.
Thanks.

hey pat, not certain but it could be a belt slipping or the power steering pump its self because there is too much strain on it you should never put your steering on full lock. i take it the sound goes away once you take it off full lock so that is more than likely the problem. cheers luke

Hey luke, How ya doin?
Yeah, I dont actually drive with it on full lock, lol, have just gone to full lock occaisionally when parked in etc. and noticed it. So was thinking, after some reading, that I may have a look at the belt and hope its that not the pump.
Thanks for the heads up, will have a look at the belt this arvo.
Will get that steering rack in the next week or so too, if ya up for an install.....
not sure if the same belt runs the AC compressor, but does that squeal as well especially at higher revs ~3k?

Not to sure about that...
I have only ever put it on full lock when practically stopped and then it makes one helluva noise.

Checked the powersteering fluid? When low, it cause nasty sounds when under load (turning full or fast).

Yeah, steering fluid is all fine.
It is leaking, as I stated, but I topped it up the other day.

Sounds like the power steering belt is slipping on full lock.
Check the belt tension as per the PDF manual. If the grooves on the belt are starting to crack, replace the belt.

My car suffers the same problem. Its a worn/about to snap PS belt. Getting it fixed this week under used car warranty :D

damn,
Can I change the belt myself? Don't have time to take it to a shop.

If you can swing a spanner then give it a go.
I did the rear brakes on my car today, took me a while (haven't worked on a car in a while) and I need better tools. Just looking at the way the belt is positioned, I wouldn't want to do it myself unless I had to :p
