hey guys.
Saw some crap on the floor of the carport so did some looking around today and found something else, its not what was on the floor of the carport because this is on the passenger side of the engine bay and the leak would have been on the drivers side.
ANYWAY im getting sidetracked, i saw this strange poo-coloured liquid 'sprayed' around under the air intake so i removed the air intake and took some pics. it was localised to just this area, i thought it may have been from the black overflow bottle (which is above it and im not sure what over flow it is) but it is too high up to be this.

Does anyone know what it is so i can replace that liquid and find out what was leaking. Its never happened before..my oil levels were fine so the gearbox fluid so yeah. Stumped.

Here are the pics:

to me it looks like coolant mixed with oil. Most likely from some oil blow by mixing with coolant from the cold start valves which allow more air in at cold start up but close when operating temperature is reached.

But just to be safe was there alot of this around and is there the same stuff under you oil cap or rad cap?

Nah, is the boot leaking, is very common as the rubber contracts and the clip no longer holds the greese in

Is not an issue.

Coolant on the floor is the heater core seals, I can do this for you, I know for a fact that Mits charges over a grand to fix lol but I will do it a damned side cheaper than that

ahhh noo! i was talking to a mate today saying how much ofa bitch it is to change it! :(
well if i get this dash thing that blacks out from you we could do it all at the same time?
there wasn't much liquid, just a lil that held some dirt and i saw it. but thinking about it, it was around the back of the engine / front of dash area on the drivers side :(

I did initially think it was that but it looked a bit too runny (from the pic) to me. lol.

Does the inner boot use a diff grease to the outter? I know the grease that came out of my outter was a damn lot darker!

inner boot grease is a caramel colour, outer boot is much darker. aftermarket kits have the same grease in both, donno why.

do you know how long the boot as been split for?
my CV boots have torn before, ive just replaced the whole drive shaft for a recoed one, cuz i wasnt sure how long the CVs had been without lubrication, and was much easier than fiddling around trying to pack grease into a new boot.
cost me $60 with trade in of the old one, and did it myself.

Aftermarket is generally lazier and will take a 'one size fits all' approach. I've seen universal CV boots that are made from vinal and 2mm thick - That's lazy.

nahhh, but i had my mechanic look at my cv last service, so a few thousand k's ago, and they looked because i thought i needed a new cv but they just regreased it and left it.

where did you trade it in and get a new one from?

yeah, that cv might cause you problems later, next time your in your car, do a full lock left and accelerate, and do the same for right.
i got mine from Sydney drive shafts, not that helps you being in vic, im sure some members here may reccomend a place, usally give it cheaper if you get a recod one, and trade in your old one.
they will use new parts in the CV itself

ahh serious?!
so what will i feel if the cv is dying when i do the full lock accelerate?

you will know if its startin to go, at full lock it will make a knocking sound. and they do tend to start eating themselfs after a while, i put mine on hold for ages cuz i knew i was doing me engine conversion and had to get replacement shaft anyway, so no point fixing somthing that i needed to replace anyway.
in the end knocking wasnt at full lock, even turning corners made the sound. embarressing, felt like i was driving an old bomb. wont really do it when rolling, just under acceleration,
