Is the a straight forward way to have the two front map lights come on when you open the door / unlock the car?

Nope, but find a Mitsu Colt at the wreckers they have that feature in there front lights, it'd need a seperate switch which these map lights dont have..

I'm sure you could tap the map lights into the interior light circuit or get the interior light circuit to trigger a relay that then operates the map lights. Its possible, not overly difficult but would take a bit of dicking around and a bit of modification to the wiring.
