Does anyone know whether it is a earth or a positive that gets flashed to central locking when you press green button on touch pad

It is a negative. All Mitsubishi's are negative trigger central locking.

if by the remote then the BEM directly drives the door locks

Any idea what the ignition feed to pin 10 on the BEM is for and what would happen if it was removed.
Just asking because central locking on touch pad doesnt work with ignition on.

Nor does mine. Have to turn the ignition off first to use the remote. PITA, I don't know why they designed it like this.

Probably because you can lock and unlock all doors by doing which you wish with the drivers door lock..... ? Unless I read this thread wrong...

Yeah i was thinking more along the lines of being able to start it to warm up then lock the doors and open later with remote.

have you tried disconnecting the switch on the ignition barrel that senses when the key is inserted?

Yeah you have to bridge it once you disconnect it. That will let you use the central locking while key is in barrell but once you turn to ignition it stops working.
