Hey guys, trying to get a ****in rattle fixed that my car's making at the moment, looked it up on here and it was suggested that it could be the alternator or power steering belt tensioners, so removed both these belts and the problem still isn't solved. Mal suggested it could be a piece of metal rattling around in the piece of flex pipe just after the y piece where the exhaust splits to go to the front and rear banks, took the heat shields off around that section just then, banged on the exhaust and it does sound like theres something rattling in there.
Is there an easier way to disconnect this section without disconnecting it all the way from the flange at the cat to the flanges just after it comes out of the front and rear banks? It all seems to be welded :( By the way is it bad for the motor or anything to start the car while this section is all disconnected? I wana see how rediculously loud it is lol

pretty sure you can run an engine without any exhaust attached.. might stuff around with the polution control sensor thing but... also not to sure about removing the exhaust, but on one of my oldies, there was a loose manifold bolt, which when tightened up got rid of the nasty rattle it made. maybe its one of your manifold bolts??

Does the rattle stop after the engine heats up? If so, it might be the heat shields on the 'engine pipe' (secondary collector) on your exhaust, mine was doing it till I got the shits and took it off, much better.

nah doesn't stop, well i've pretty much got the section of exhaust off that I needed, except I cant seem to undo the nut/bolt/whatever that's holding the wire in just before the cat (i'm guessing this is an oxygen sensor or something), got the right size spanner, the bastard just will not budge! tryed sum WD40, hasnt worked, ill have another crack after lunch then once I get that off I can have a look to see if the rattle is inside the section of exhaust.
and also holy shit the car sounds mad with no exhaust lol

well, I gave up and snipped the wires to the o2 sensor lol
so i've got the exhaust section out now and theres definately something rattling around in there, sounds like its coming from the Y-piece. But i've just realised a new problem, how the **** do I get whatever's in there out? lol

The connector for the O2 sensor is pretty easy to get at on the passengers side of the centre console.
It just clips into the floor with a plastic grommet.
That way when you resolder the wring back together (far easier to do whilst the exhaust is off the car), all you need to do is feed the plug back through the floor, plug in, and your'e away.
