Anyone succesfully run 245 or 255mm rubber on a 3rd gen magna? If so, what was the width and offset of the rims?

I'm looking at set of 17 x 9" rims with +35 offset..any chance they might fit with 245 or 255mm tyres?

I don't care if they rub on full lock, these will be track rims/tyres only.

I'm running 245's all round on mine
Running on a 8" rim with a +38mm offset
No rubbing what so ever with my current suspension set up

I'm thinking that you will need a lot less than 35mm offset to fit 9" wheels. Maybe about 25mm maximum. A 255 tyre on a 9" wheel will be about 265 wide.

Cheers,
Alan

Check in one of cummins threads i know he is running something like that and he is running a 9.5 or 9.0 rim

I'm running 245's all round, no scrubbing on the front except full lock and the rear is just on huge bumps.. but it is uber low atm so you should be fine... only things to look out for is the rear control arm.. it is different on vrx & ralliart models and allows for the 245's..

I'm running +35 offset too so they sit about 8mm outside the regular guards... but just on or inside with the ralliart flares

I'm running 245/40/18 on 18 x 9 1/2 +35 all round, no rubbing but I do run a very stiff suspension setup.

245/35 on 19x8.5 +42s here, dead in line with non-flare guards. Slight rub at half lock, none at full lock unless on uneven ground.

What width rims? Does the Sports also have the same rear control arm as the ralliart & VRX?

Hey Dan, I understand your coilovers mean more clearance than a strut though..any idea what you're running would still fit with struts? I'm running 400lbs springs at the front and pretty sensible ride height, that's gotta help when it comes to avoiding rubbing under cornering/over bumps I imagine.

Do you reckon it's worthwhile running a 245 or 255mm semi-slick over 235? I wonder how much difference there would be..i.e not worth the hassle if we're talking only a couple of tenths of a second per lap

I intend on buying brand-new RE55s or the Dunlops once I'm convinced my driving and setup are good enough to warrant it...I could only JUST match my damp time on used RE55s with new R888s in the dry, which makes me think the R888s aint the best on our car. But other variables such as having street tyres on the rear with the R888s, inconsistencies in driving between laps etc so I can't be sure I guess.

Have a feeling that the Sports doesn't have the same control arms then as I'm running a 5mm spacer just to clear the control arm at the rear and there's about 1mm in it, but there should be more once I've corrected the rear camber.

I don't think the Sports does, since the different control arm was because of the 7" wide rims on the Ralliart and VR-X.

I think my rims are 8" wide.. but 20's obviously...

and the control arm is only different on vrx and ralliart

however I'm running 245's on the 7.5inch 17's on my TJ and its fine also.. soI think you should be right...

The TJ sports had 7" wide rims - 16 x 7. Either way, I'm mainly interested in running 245-255mm rubber at the front, I can just stick with 235mm at the rear if I need to.

Not sure on strut clearance, you're welcome to try my wheels if ur keen to find out.

With the r-comps it very much depends on the brand of tyre as to what will fit. The RE55s are wider when mounted than the kumho V70A I've had in the same size. I picked up a set of 245/45/17 Kumho V710 that i'll run at the next hillclimb in 2 weeks (weather permitting) so i can tell you what they are like soon.

If you are just doing circuit work, where u can get some heat into the tyres before u have to push hard then I highly recommend the RE55s in hard (SR2). 235/45/17 is the size to get in re55s, anything bigger in those and you'll scrub the guards under heavy cornering.

You really need that same compound all round to get the most out of the car too.

mine are 245's all round, 19x8.5 lenso type M, dont know the offset of the top of my head, but its quite low, as they stick out from the guards a fair bit, my car is lowered and i have never scrubbed!

I did notice the RE55s seem quite wide for a 235mm tyre, a bit wider than the R888. The rims I'm currently looking at are 17 x 8.5" +30 offset..should these fit nicely? I might need my guards rolled though I'm guessing?

What offset are your Volks?

Exactly the same as mine, with the 235/45/17 re55s, I rolled the rear guards when i put them on with the old suspension, wooks ran them on his with the coilovers and didn't need the guards touched.
