Well, I was just wondering what I could use to add a cup holder to the centre console of my TS auto magna, basically, I don’t smoke, filthy addiction... but I am addicted to slurpees, so I want to remove the ashtray and the hole it slots into and mould in a giant cup holder, the holder will be specifically designed for the giant slurpee cups you can get (Hence why I cant use any of the tiny clip on cup holders from SCA etc).
I would want to make it look like it is meant to be stock, has anyone done something similar or other work on the console plastic and could give some advice? what sort of stuff would be used, fibreglass or some kind of plastic moulding?
I probably would see if I could get a second one from a wreckers in case I completely stuff it up.
So another question is do the auto and manual 2nd gens use the same centre piece?

My Recipe for Success :D
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

About the pic:
I Semi-Traced it from the workshop manual, took way too long for what it is, but I just had to get it on 'paper'.
And about the one of lucifer's:
yes, I just went looking for it and I found where I commented on it once before, lol, completely forgot, I didnt really think much about it because it at the time, but its only now I think I will be able to get around to it. But yes, that is what I was thinking of, what is that 'bog' and 'spray putty' stuff and where can I get it?, and where can I get the paint for it from? (I know I should pm him soon but ill ask here for now)

Manual and Auto consoles are different, manual is a square cut out for the gear boot, auto is rectangular.
Now....Totally do-able with FG, only thing is, it has a chance of cracking as plastic and FG dont bond very well together.
Id probably use a bit of PVC pipe and glue it to the bottom of the console with sikaflex or something and FG around that

mate, dont get into it if you're not prepared. fibreglassing isnt as easy as you might think and will never end up perfect unless you're damn patient.
however, if you're ready to do it, then heres what you need to know;
the auto centre console piece can be used in a manual, but not vice versa.
the 'bog' you need is car body putty and shouldnt be used on flexible areas. the spray putty does the same job to a lesser extent in that the paste putty can be applied to even out big dips. the spray really just does small dips/holes.
you will need to open out the hole in the centre console piece both on the black removable one and on the base too to accomodate a large McD cup. that obviously depends on the size of your cup holder.

I used 2 cork sanding blocks, cutting one block into 2 pieces which were shaped to fit as uprights into the ashtray snuggly. Then using the second block as the base and srewing that to both uprights. Then getting a plastic stubbie holder with foam insulation and screwing it to the sanding block base with 2 screws through the stubbie base. With the insulation inisde it holds a can of 375 ml can, without the insulation it can hold a 600 ml bottle. Not sure if a slurpee will fit. It might not look attractive but does the job for me. When not in use, you just lift out the stubbie holder and blocks and use ashtray as normal if needed.

I just pull the ashtray out of mine and jam drinks in there. Slim containers will fit. When the drinks finished I put the ashtray back in. Doing a proper mod would be best of course.
My car's a manual and I do find that a drink in that spot interferes with using the gearstick.

I tried just jamming one of the slurpee cups once (the largest 7/11 ones that are just $3.00 :))... the cup cracked and went all over me in traffic... I had to drive to the nearest stop area holding it out the window with 1 hand...

Im sure when TR3000 said jam it in he didn't mean literally mash it in:beer:
Maybe you should just buy smaller slurpies and do like the rest of us and just pull the ashtray out, how big is a big slurpee?

I mashed it in only as far as it had to go so it wouldnt fall over, and why would I buy a smaller slurpee :O, the next size down is only 50cents difference and so much smaller :P
Don't you judge me :)

Haha you think the same as me, dam their price differences vs size, maybe just get a spare centre console lid and try hack into that, surely there would be enough room on that to make a decent sized cupholder.

That'll only fit if he has climate control and I'm guessing like me he doesn't if he's driving a TS rather than a KS.
