What brand tow bars do Folks have? Anyone towing a 'van?

I have twin rear muffs (1 ea side), how does the tow bar mount to the chassis? Trying to keep the twins AND get a t-bar that fits.

I had a 1600kg Alin? brand.....attached to the spare wheel well and the chassis rails that support the bumper.
It attached to the rails a little off-centre, with the 2 bolts on the drivers side going in from the outer side of the rail and the P/S bolts going in from the inner side of the rail. .(all bolt heads facing D/S)

Thought that's how it'd bolt up. What's she like to tow with? Would have to be sweet-as I suspect :D ? My GT Forester was a great car to tow with - light trailers etc, much better than my VS Acclaim.

I can't say as i've never tried. I've got a daily driver (farm pig) for towing, but yeah it should be great.

Forgot to mention....it had flat type nuts inside the chassis rails.

I just purchased the factory 1500kg towbar for my TL VRX AWD, I think that it is an Alin or Arlin, probably the same as previously mentioned. The dealer went to a bit of trouble to ensure that I got the right one. The kit came with the towbar, tongue, ball, bolts, frame nuts, wiring kit, and bumper cutting template for ~$311. Unfortunately, it still requires that I cut a piece out of the bumper.

Does anyone have a picture of the cutout that is needed for a VRX? I just want to see what it will look like.

How can you make a neat cutout that you can still use as a filler piece when the tongue is off the towbar?

Thanks

Ken

Yep, only the standard magna has the proper removable section for tow bars. Veradas and VRXs do not. Just use a sharp knife and go slowly. The bumper plastic is surprisingly soft. Cut about half a centermeter bigger than the tow bar and slot in one of those flexible edge protectors. You will have to hot glue that piece back on when you remove the towbar.

Does this factory towbar mount to the spare wheel at all?

Is it the tongue or square hitch?

I just thought I'd throw in that my TJ Sports AWD has the pop out section for the towbar.

I'm thinking of getting a go-kart down the track so this could be on the books for me too, so thanks for the thread.

That's because the TJ Sports still uses the standard rear bumper.

Thanks for the reply Vlad. Now at least I know a knife will cut it.

The towbar is the flat tongue type. I prefer the square hitch receiver type, but both Hayman Reese and Misubishi say they don't have a version to suit the VRX. The towbar mounts to the spare wheel well through the removal of grommets and the placement of bolts through large, thick, washers/plates supplied with the kit.

I'll take some pictures and post them in a day or so.

Hmm. I've got the square removable hitch from Alin (ATB).

Hey GTVi, your car is so shiney and so red! I think that the VRX bumper is still lower than yours, so I suppose that the plate that is visible in your photo may require a big cut out in the VRX bumper to clear it.

I'm sorry to ask a dopey question, how can I insert a picture into a reply without it being a link to a picture hosting site? I'm trying to post the towbar pictures.

you can manually type the following without the spaces "[ img ]http://domain.com/path/pic.jpg [/ img ]"
or you can press the button "http://www.aussiemagna.net/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif just above the box you type messages, and then enter in the full path. Make sure it doesn't put http:// there twice.

Cheers, oggy.

 That is what he does not want to do. I think we can longer just upload images to this forum as it takes up too much space and costs the admins more money. Just sign up to photobucket. It is free.

oops - my bad - and I don't have that it was late as an excuse 'cause it's now 3am and I understand more clearly!

As Vlad said - I think they've stopped attachments - the bandwidth of photos on a forum can be horrendous, so for AMC's benefit, an image hosting site is preferable.

If you've got your own web space with your ISP, you could use that. FTP access can be done through windows explorer, so a simple shortcut on your desktop could open your 'web storage', then copy & paste or drag & drop your image and it will copy across (upload). And sometimes the links are easier to type and my work probably won't block your ISP, unlike photobucket, facebook and a heap of other sites :)

Thanks for the replies regarding the uploading of photographs. I'll figure out the best approach for me shortly.

I'm a system admin, so I'll figure it out the technology, but I'm quickly growing to dislike the constant changes in the IT field. Where I'd once spend sunny weekends loading software, I'd now rather be outside driving or riding my bike. I suppose that I'm transitioning into "grumpy old man".
