First gen auto 4 cyl

well after sikaflexing my engine mounts Two years ago

todays inspection finds the front mount damaged
and the tiny shock absorber stuffed
but the rear mounts soild as a rock

so for a life span of two years I feel is very good
for the outlay of the tube of sikaflex was $20

the mount can be re sikaflexed but I have a new one handy approx $50

i was actually considering doing this to my car, since they dohc uses the same mounts, i just put the halfcut mounts in and will gut my old mounts (whihc are already stuffed)

OP do you know what the shure value for sikaflex is? Apparently its rated this way and ive heard around 60-90 is the way to go, 90 being stiffer. Any input on the subject?

I know bunnings sells large sausage like polyureathane tubes of all different types until now ive never though to check what makes them different

it all depends on which Sikaflex you use, there are roughly 15 different 'Sikaflexes' that I can think of off the top of my head, it is the simply the brand name used for Sika's polyurethanes. Let me know the specific Shore A value you are chasing and I let you know which one you need to be getting hold of.

I used the black stuff 226 or 228 some number like that
for a chalking gun container

its 100% polyurathane I got 3 mounts done from a tube

if we split the difference and say it was 227, in a black cartridge?? then the Shore A hardness is 40. As far as I know, the highest Shore A product Sika make is Sikatack Drive with a Shore A of 70, also in a black cartridge, predominantly intended for fitting windscreens, so you would be looking at somewhere like Coventry Fasteners, National Autoglass and the like.

SA TFER you are a champ, obviusly bunnings had no idea when i was asking them, but its good to know the value. By process of elimination it seems that the accepted good one to use is a shoreA of about 60-90, so 70 is pretty much where i want it to be. I use the one for windscreens normally for anytihing when i use sikflex. I was opting for the marine grade stuff thinking about longevity but afte finding some good reading material its only a rating of 40aswell, which doesnt seem to last

if you are chasing a high Shore A, just make sure you use the Sikatack Drive, the other windscreen adhesive (255 Extra) has a Shore A down around 40 as well. And don't go to Bunnings if you can avoid it, they charge the earth and don't know what the @#$% they are talking about. I know there is a good reseller of Sika gear near Pinkenba, if that is any use to you? Failing that, I can find out where our resellers are close to where you are??

hey mate that would be gold if you could. I could only find 255 and 291 today, but again it was at bunnings. There is a glenfords about 15mintues from me, im in ipswich, which is area code 4305.

Thanks in advance mate, i hollowed out my spare mounts today

no problems, will chase down a reseller for you tomorrow, post here

edit: Windscreens OBrien in Darra or National Auto Glass in Archerfield are probably your best bet to source some of the Drive. It isn't sold through our normal distribution network.
