To be honest i couldnt afford to even get it pressed out at the time. I am the type of person (with 30 years mechanical experiance) after the first hour i saw it as a challenge. Also without a fair bit of experiance i would have given up & said nah i dont come out.

another old mechanics trick is to run bead of arc weld around
inside of bearing to shrink it, might have saved an hour or so lol

yes i was spewing that i didnt have my MIG with me i would have just blasted most of the bearing away. The thing i thought funny is that 30 years ago I could have applied enough force with the hammer & chisel to shatter the bearing shell & just dust out the hub. Sort of the same as I used to do early holden rear bearings as a lad.

This was strictly a case of the hammer & chisel were all i had & I have the scars from the little shards of both hammer & chisel on my hands but the the stranger than true part of this story is i didnt hit my hand once.

I would've just put it in the oven for an hour or two. Actually no, I'd have had it pressed out for $10.
My time is worth more than that money......

An oxy torch does wonders with a little light hammering.

I think the key point here is "side of the road" lol
