For all of the people who think this is faster, or pod is better, or anything like that, I suggest that you all read this before you make claims. It may not be exactly the same on our cars, but its something, not to mention its ALL with testing, not just whacking a pipe on and expecting power. I figured that so many people argue about the second gen's intakes and how theyre crap and you cant do anything with them, and then theres people who claim better speed or better economy. Hopefull these articles put all of that to rest, and maybe some of you might even make your own airboxes or CAI's or possibly even fit a box from a different car. But anyways whatever you do, this is just a guide to help, I know im new and all, but following this, you dont go wrong, cheers :), ts90four.

READ ALL OF IT lol, also autospeed has absolutely HEAPS about everything cars, from budget performance exhausts, to ecu remaps and diy fuel adjuster kits, so just remember if your thinking aobut doing something to your car, theyve probbably got something on it.

also, DO NOT, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, take the resonator boxes off and block the passages without first perfoming some sort of modification to the intake pipe, I have just done that this morning and taking them off without widening the intake rapes your power, you barely feel any torque and throttle response turns to crap, its just louder, thats it. either cut the intake pipe OR make a new one or a box to suit, will upload pics as im going to go have a go at it now :)

I seriously hope you blanked off the holes after you took the resonator boxes off mate.

definitely lol, lean out much? hahaha, course, i couldnt find any end caps in the right sizes so i used some hard juice bottle caps, lol, theyre a very tight push fit (id rather not have one get sucked into the astron, its very hungry after all :D, names sam btw :)

Welcome Sam!

Unfortunately the feeling of having no torque and power is a result of the Asstron itself

ok pics coming, just cut the end off the intake pipe, goes better, sounds meatier, and so glad that theres no drone in any gear from removing the resonators, but its not as good as it could be seeing as its still pulling very warm air (the astron is the hottest 4 potter ive ever seen!). SO!, im going to go into work tomorow (we work with a lot of stainless sheet metal and aluminium sheet metal) with plans drawn up for either a new air box with a different intake pipe size and location, or just run a 3 inch pipe next to the battery down through the bottom of where the battery is and run it to the front bumper, or both :D, will put up pics of plans and current mods within the hour hopefully. Who knows, if its a worthwhile gain (with times and all) then maybe some others in Adelaide wouldnt mind some being made up, and I can make yas one, but if the boss wants money for the scrap sheet (doubt it) then they may have to pay at max maybe 10, 20 bucks. Also im not going for the placebo effect nor was I blinded by it this time around as I have been every other time I work on a car :D, this time it actually fixed the screw up i made by just removing the resonators. Im actually doing this for worthwhile gains as Ive always found them to be nice cars, but a bit lacking in the balls department. Turboing may be an option well, well down the track too. REMEMBER: COLD AIR IS EVERYTHING... your intake breathing hot air IS DETRIMENTAL to your engine, cold air is more dense, hence you can cram more into the engine, and therefore it makes more power, just remember that before you go putting an unsheathed pod somewhere. Also, the factory intake is taking cold air from within the guard, so really it is a form of CAI, but its not a big enough hole, thats the downside, cheers ts90four. Also pics of my car are going up in the rides section.

LOL thanks cyber monkey, but then again Ive come from a 1991 holden barina, and a pretty much factory r31 skyline auto (with a pod in a box) and they werent to flash either, so anything worthwhile is good, also my magna cracks 100 quicker than the skyline ever would, and the barina? well, lets not mention that ol banger lol, lots of bad memories

hey take it easy on the barinas, I have had 4 of em in my time and loved em to bits and still do!! Although I have never had the Suzuki made Barina, only the euro ones.

oh dude you missed out bad, the suzuki ones ripped the euros a new one, well the 94 ish bubble ones anyways, nah mine was fun, but I was just a young kid at the time, and messed with everything I could, and every time i touched something it pretty much broke, like say, my carby that I pulled apart to see inside until i dropped one of the jets into it and poulled it all apart and then couldnt get back together lol. but yeah it took a beating my old barina, was awesome, had so much fun in it, then got done speeding in it and lost my license, learnt my lesson and completely changed my driving style :D. also learnt attempting to weld stainless steel to mild steel does not work at all lol, or not with my lacking skills hahaha

so anyways back to the CAI, took some photos, did some mods, took some more photos lol, but here goes. ok so youve got your engine yeah? oh wait, gotta make a photobucket account lol

ok so, I made the account, now to the pics,

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOU OR YOUR CAR WHILE DOING THESE MODS, I HAVE PERFORMED THEM ON MY CAR AND THEY ARE FINE, IF YOURS DOES NOT WORK YOU HAVE DONE SOMETHING WRONG, DO NOT BLAME ME.

STEP 1: open the bonnet :D
STEP 2: remove resonator if you feel like it (makes louder throatier sound, but mods have to be done to the intake pipe to gain anything at all) if you dont skip to step 4.

resonator removed: http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1448.jpg
STEP 3: CAP THE ENDS OF THE RESONATOR INTAKES IF YOU REMOVED THEM, I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, YOU WILL LEAN OUT YOUR ENGINE AND IT WILL PING LIKE SHIT IF YOU DONT, then your engine will explode :D, so CAP THEM FOOLS. Juice tops are perfect, but dont get soft ones or they will get sucked in, i dont know from experience, but im sure thats what would happen. tighten the clamps for the resonator openings back up
http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1447.jpg
STEP 4: Remove the top of your airbox
http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1452.jpg
STEP 5: take your filter out and undo these three bolts
http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1453.jpg
STEP 6: remove bottom of box
http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1454.jpg
STEP 7: remove the single bolt holding the air intake in.
http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1451.jpg
STEP 8: remove the intake snorkel (whatever you would like to call it lol)
http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1458.jpg
STEP 9: Now cut the skinny opening off the end of the intake
http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1459.jpg
and sand the insides clean and smooth
http://s819.photobucket.com/albums/zz115/ts90four/?action=view&current=100_1460.jpg
STEP 10: put everything back together, then check to make absolutely sure everything is back on and no tools are left in the engine bay, then drive it :D

I was thinking about that too, but in my plans for a box ill need to cut it anyway so i thought why not? rather than losing it like i do lol, thanks for the comment to man :D
