I know this is probably a stupid question but I can't find the answer in the forums.

I'm just curious as to what exactly what are parabolic headlights, how are they different from the standard magna headlights and what is better about them?

All I know is that I have them.

Cheers.

They have the clearer, nicer looking lens.

Found on Sports/VRX/Verada models.

Ok. All headlights have parabolic shaped reflectors. The KS Verada, KE-KJ and TH-TJ, TL/KL
models have whats called a Multi-Surface Parabolic Reflectors or MSPRs for short.

Standard headlight parabolic reflectors has one smooth curve so it does not diffuse the light. It
relies on the front lense (frasnel sp?) lense to difuse and shape the beam.

MSPRs have a clear front lense and uses the reflector (which have multiple curves) to both
diffuse and shape the beam.

Generally, MSPRs also have a little hood for the lightbulb so no direct light goes out to blind
people.

Hope this helps.

Have a look at the 2nd gen post your ride thread for the verada headlights as compared to
the magna headlights.

They also illuminate better..

I got them mainly cos they have a 'luxury' look to them... and I like my car to be different from everyone elses.

I think they make a noticable difference in looks, much more sportier.

Thanks everyone,

I finally understand. When I first bought my Verada, it meant nothing to me that it came with parabolic headlights but now that I know what they are, i'm glad I have them...especially so considering the cost to upgrade to them.

its for the chicks, not one person would think about converting for the better light (cos there isn't much difference except one is harder to allign and more expencive to replace)

Why would it be hard to adjust. Mine has a set of screws for each individual light to adjust the
horizontal and vertical rotations.

I'm not usually one to flame others, as it dosen't promote the right kind of atmosphere for online forums such as this (this is supposed to be a friendly & helpful place for all Magna enthusiasts both young & old) but...

That comment coming from a turbo charade driver?

I know everyone's entitled to their opinnion, but perhaps when you have a "turbo" manga (or any magna for that matter) your comments might be taken a little more seriously in these forums?

Such comments only help clearly show that you have no idea what you are talking about, whilst (new) parabolics might be expensive they aren't hard to align at all in my experience and not only do they look good, in my opinnion they do provide better light - especially when a decent set of bulbs are being used in them.

Moderators - if you feel this post to be inappropriate or offensive in anyway you have my permission to remove it. (not that you need it obviously!)

Well I agree...
I got mine to make the car look better... NO OTHER REASON!!!
I felt that if anything the stock lens gave a better wider light on low beam. The TJ Sports single piece ones I have (without parkers) use a strange bulb that is more expensive to replace than the std bulbs..
Mine however are VERY easy to adjust as they come with a built in level... you simply wind the adjustment screw until the bubble is in the correct position... 3-5 min MAX.

So no problems here with his comments.

I used the parkers from my old standard headlights when I put my paras in.

I'm thinking of changing the globes out for some PIA ones or similar though as the standard magna headlight parkers when put in the parabolics are terrible (but legal?).

I'm now using the old parkers. Funnily enough, the parkers don't look as bright as they did in the stock lens but I think that's because the parker doesn't sit as far into the lens as they did on the stock ones. I felt that on high beam they perform better. Low beam is a slightly different spread and I don't know if it's better or not. Once I get better bulbs then I might think otherwise.

I got them because they look better and add character to the car. They are noticeable, more so than some of the changes done on other makes and models where you need to be a trainspotter to pick them out.

how does one stick parkers in parabolics (that don't have parkers)

The one piece paras from 3rd gen's do if they come off of a Sports or VR-X.

Otherwise they should have a little blank mounted in a bracket that needs to be removed and replaced with a globe and relevant wiring.
