G'day people,

Just curious to know if anybody on here has the special 5 year warranty on their used 380 and had their cars serviced elsewhere instead of Mitsubishi. I was told that if I purchased the car new the 5 year warranty would remain regardless of service centre used but because I was given the full 5 year warranty even on my then 1 year old 380 I HAD to get it serviced at Mitsubishi.....Just curious to know because the dealer service costs are highway robbery in my opinion. If I did get it serviced elsewhere and I had my warranty void I assume I would still get the remainder of the factory warranty which would be just under 3 years remaining...is it worth it?

Cheers,
Mikey

Afaik, so long as the mechanic is qualified, and uses OE equivalent parts then it shouldn't void your warranty. My Parents car is still under factory warranty (a lancer but some thing different smell) and it gets serviced by our local mechanic and it has had all its warranty issues warranted (new brake lines and new coil packs)

Yeah mate that's my understanding of factory warranty...however mine was bought used (26,000km) and at the time and I am not sure if it still is available but I was given a full 5 year warranty. So I assume this isn't a factory warranty but a special offer to get the scoop purchased 380's off the dealer floor hence my curiosity as to whether it works the same as factory warranty.....

I got mine at the 12mth mark and was told that I had 5yrs Mitsubishi backed Warranty to the Balance of 130000Kms which ever happened first. I will continue to get standard service thru them but extra items will be done by another Mechanic.

Specifically pointed out to me by the salesman when I purchased mine that vehicle must be serviced at least once every year at Mitsubishi to maintain the "new car on a used car" warranty.

If not only statutory remaining warranty applies on the vehicle.

This also applies to continue to qualify for the roaside assistance package which is renewed by Mitsubishi on an annual basis.

Cheers

I think used car warranty (one that the dealership does, not Mitsubishi) is you have to get it serviced by them at regular intervals (ie 6 months 10,000k's) Your car should still have a a balance of factory warranty left (being a 2007) so provided its serviced by a qualified mechanic etc, they should warrant it. As i said earlier anything broken on the Lancer has been done no questions asked, and ill be safe to assume our Outlander will be the same when its due to have something break.

This is only valid if you have the Vehicle serviced by Mitsubishi. Not sure if this is that much of a value compared to the inflated prices of servicing at Mitsubishi, especially when the Warranty is not void when servicing elsewhere.

I have no idea about this warranty as discussed & I probably don't have any with the blower lol but .............

When I got my car serviced last week the dealer gave me a roadside assistance card valid for 12 months or until the next 15000km service which I thought was pretty good.

that reminds me I have to call them to transfer ownership to me LOL so I can get me a shiny card

but as far as the servicing is for the Manufacters warranty it is once a year from a dealer

I understand what your saying Potentfoz, but this was a Mitsubishi backed extra warranty not a dealership warranty (purchased From Bartons Bayside Holden at Wynnum). He was very firm in saying that because its a out of the normal warranty offer it was to be serviced at Mitsubishi only..he then offered the 3 year 175,000km dealer warranty but that only covered parts to a value of $1000 then the rest had to be paid by me.....I told him to jump. Anyway I might just contact the ACCC and see what they say on the matter. Surely this is some sort of small white lie by the dealer to get money going where they want?

Dont quote me on it, but there was something about this awhile ago on ACA (disclaimer they are biased pigs, but occasionally they do turn up some real facts)

Ultratune i think market that you keep warranty if you service through them (again this was awhile ago, perhaps google may turn up an answer or two)

I have roadside assist AND the full 6*/10 year warranty from my purchase date even though my car was a 2005 model demo with 10,000k on the clock.

*(6 years because mitsubishi offered us people who bought 380's with a month of the factory shutdown announcment an extra year for our 'loyalty')

I got that 6th year too, but I think only owners of new cars got it (although mine's an ex-demo too).

Spot on Ultratune took the former big 5 to court over this a number of years ago and won, this means that all manufacturers warranty must be honoured by the manufacture regardless of who services the vehicle provided the vehicle is correctly serviced using the manufactures recommended service schedule. This was upheld by the Australian Competition Watchdog (ACCC) and meant that car manufactures where forced to make public their service schedules and requirements. It also meant that they needed to sell (at a fair price) the correct servicing tools.

You still need to have your car serviced at Mitsubishi within the last 6 months of the original 3 year warranty if you want to get the extra 2 years of warranty, to make it a 5 year warranty.

That is not true. All you need to do is present the car at a Mitsubishi dealership for an inspection. All of this is outlined in the warranty handbook and is exactly what I did.

I may have read the book wrong, but that was my understanding of it.
