Question is from me having an iPhone 3G and wanting to remove cables from the car, as well as getting the iPhone out of sight. I currently have a audio cable from the iPhone to the head unit. My intention would be I would put a 12v outlet into the glovebox or centre console for the phone to charge, and connect to a new head unit via A2DP.

What's the audio quality like over A2DP? I've tried with a BlueAnt as a proof of concept and it connects fine - although the BlueAnt speaker is as tinny as anything.

Regards, Tony

I upgraded my wife's iPhone 3G to the A2DP bluetooth protocol so that I could use wireless bluetooth stereo headphones (Freepulse) directly without an adapter plugged into the phone. Worked very well, so i tried it in the car which has a Pioneer head unit that picks up bluetooth phones. I can't tell the difference (quality wise) between music playing from the iPhone and that coming from a USB drive containing my entire iTunes library and connected by cable to the head unit.

Varies wildly depending on the sending and receiving devices. I had a set of A2DP headphones and they sucked, but another pair were quite good. I also tested out an A2DP Bluetooth carkit and it sounded great until it screwed up :P

I have a Sony Bluetooth A2DP HU and I use it make calls and listen to music on my iPhone 3G and it sounds fine, unlike the FM transmitters which always sound crap Bluetooth is crystal clear.
