View Full Version : Auto Windows Up on Locking Module

Hey Guys,
I was looking into a feature ive seen on a lot of other cars (Not any magnas tho) that i know can be added later as a mod.
The idea is that when you lock your car the windows (power windows) go up automatically if they are down. I know this often comes as a fancy extra with some security/alarm systems.
I have found these on ebay http://shop.ebay.com.au/i.html?LH_AvailTo=15&_nkw=windows+up+module&_arm=1&_armm=63&_ruu=http://shop.ebay.com.au/i.html%3F_nkw%3Dwindows%2Bup%2Bmodule%26_arr%3D1&_rdc=1.
Was wondering if anyone else has installed one of these and which ones are better? I'd want all 4 windows. And also I think i have an enhanced car alarm already with a few extra options, but it still uses the default mitsu remote control.
I dont reallly want to spend more then $60, and would like to install it myself (I had a look at some of the ebay instructions and they kind of look a bit confusing). So yeah any feedback/tips would be great :D
Cheers

my evo had this from factory.. closed windows & sunroof if you click the lock button twice.. and 3rd click would pull the mirrors in..
great feature.. i do miss that in the magna...

wow that is really cool.... i wonder if you could buy another remote and reciever (not a standard remote) and hook all these functions up to it... then you could have a remote to lock your car, then the other remote can do the windows (and sunroof if your one of the lucky ones with a sun roof)
also if i remember correctly mohit had one of these auto wind up things in his car... best bet is to PM him about this..
I have this on my Subaru, it's an add on to the Viper alarm, Hornets have it too. very handy, so far couldn't be bothered fitting an alarm to the magna just for this though. unknown if you can upgrade the factory alarm.
ps, find out what brand alarm upgrade you have now, it may not cost a lot to add to that system.

Yeh i had an auto windows up module on my KJ Verada.
I can't access YouTube from work but if you check my page (www.youtube.com/mohitsheorey) you will see a vid i made of it in action. It also has the part name and number in the vid comments.

For those others who can't access YouTube, it is Vision VAE318-10. I'd be interested in this - did it integrate with the factory remote?

I had a Mongoose upgrade car alarm which the used the factory remotes
The upgrade alarm could be added with a number of extra modules and sensors
But you should be able to tap the windows up module into the circuit that tells the car to lock the doors when using the factory remote

I googled the VAE318-10....seems to be the same thing that all those ones on ebay are - cant find a price for it tho. They supposedly connect to your factory or aftermarket power windows and remote alarm. Here is an example of one: Window Closer (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/WINDOW-ROLL-UP-MODULE-FOR-TWO-WAY-CAR-ALARM-2-4-WINDOWS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem255728c9c3QQite mZ160376080835QQptZCarQ5fAudioQ5fVideo) and the installation guide is there...if you can call it that.
I just checked my aftermarket alarm, and its a M1 Car Alarm (never heard of them). Apparently according to the manual, it has an automatic window up as an option, but its not currently installed. Id assume they just add their own brands version of this module to the alarm.
The ones on ebay claim that when you lock your car with the standard remote, the windows go up one at a time just like Mohits video. No extra remote supplied or needed.

I have an FAI-4WM module installed in my car by a previous owner. As far as I know, along with some factory alarm upgrades, it uses the factory remote to trigger.
I have two wires in my door which i have no idea about (there are pics in the members thread) but other than that, it appears to be wired correctly to the factory system. This means it is possible :)

Hey Mohit was it hard to install it?
I had a sparky install my alarm but from what i remember the module just plugged into the upgrade alarm
it is possible, my aftermarket sunroof does it. When the key is moved to off, the sunroof closes on its own

This is sure an interesting mod that not many of us would think of. I would love to do it but need to find out more information first. So let me explain myself clearly.
The one Mohit's got seems to be part of or an extension of his new alarms system. However, not all of us are going down that path and some of us would merely want to add that auto windows wind up function on locking the car.
From timmy_666's ebay link in the first post, there seems to be about 3-4 different products serving similar if not the same (other than some additional functions or only works on 2 windows) functions. Which ones would you guys think would be the better or best product to use then?
i think you should investigate the function for the auto-closing sunroof. If the factory ones does it, figure out why.

If someone knows where the power windows relay/switch is in a magna (ie. the one in this diagram (http://www.gearflag.com/products/window_closer/diagram1.gif)), then i might buy a cheap one off ebay and have a crack at it. If i can get it working ill post up a tutorial :D

That is the switch for the master control (drivers door/centre console-TL). going by how mine is installed, the wiring for the windows is bypassed through the Auto close box and then to the switches. If I unplug the box in my drivers door, my windows will not work at all.
As for the sunroof closing, The Auto Window boxes generally have an output signal to trigger another module. Mine does. Extra modules to make this function work can be bought as well.
The aftermarket Hollandia roofs generally have an autoclose function built in rather than and alarm addition. Holden/Ford 'factory' install Hollandia/Webasto roofs to all cars if optioned.
The factory Mitsubishi ones, do not auto close. They are not an aftermarket supplied sunroof. The best we can hope for with them is they are connected to the Etacs system and have a time delay after the key is removed like the power windows.

so i would just splice into the back of the power window controls in the center console?
That diagram also has a "central locking positive trigger" and "central locking positive trigger" any idea what these get wired too?

Im pretty sure thats to allow for both negative and positive triggering systems, i think the magna is negative triggering so you pick up the door lock pulse with the negative trigger wire. Im no auto electrician so someone will correct me if im wrong.
I bought a 4 window module off ebay a while back and still haven't got around to fitting it, yes i am lazy. Should be resonalby easy to install though, if you fit it in the drivers door all four window switch's are there and easy to access. One question i had though is do i need to worry about the 12v supply to the module because the magna provides power to the windows for long enough to put the windows up?

best to either run another power wire into the door or do the interface in the drivers kickpanel and pick up a constant feed because there are gonna be times that you want to lock the doors and wind up the windows and the power will have timed out

These are simple to install. You actually have to cut the window up wire for each window and connect the module into this. No alarm needed. You just pick up the negative lock wire at the BCM under the right hand side of the dash. I used to be an alarm installer and have installed dozens of these. VERY easy to do.

ok i think i get it, as for the drivers door, it depends on car model i think? in my TL the physical doors switches (that i would normally use to make all 4 windows go up and down) is located just behind my gear stick... so i would assume i would install this thing under that. I've just bid on this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160376640618), its the cheapest American one (seems a little bit better then the chinese ones and only $10 more)
As for those of you with sunroofs, ebay also has modules for auto close functions for them - appears to by a two-way motor controller (eg. this one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CAR-ALARM-POWER-WINDOW-SUNROOF-ROLL-UP-MODULE-DEI-529T_W0QQitemZ350247597014QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_De faultDomain_0?hash=item518c6233d6)), so may work on those of you with folding mirros etc...

Yeah timmy, I am also looking at the same exact one in your link. Looks like the best bang for buck. The rest were either for only 2 windows and thus requires two module (ending up being more expensive) or just plain too expensive!
However, this one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Autopage-AC-78-Power-Window-Roll-Up-Roll-Down-Module_W0QQitemZ390085896698QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_ DefaultDomain_0?hash=item5ad2ee69fa) interests me a fair bit due to its additional functions. Like auto ventilation and auto front windows roll down after disengaging alarms. Down side is you need two for 4 windows... What do you guys think of it? Not too sure about that channel 2 and 3 thing though!

OK. I cant remember the wire colour but the easiest way to locate it is to buy a test light. Put the clip on to a good metal surface in the car to earth it. The steering colomn or any metal there will be ok. The control module is located behind the plastic panel between the steering wheel and the pedals. Remove this panel and the module is on the right hand side of the steering column just behind the ignition switch. With your test light earthed as previously said, probe the wires in the module one at a time. When you probe the correct wire, the doors will lock.

When you press the lock button on your key it should pulse a power out of pin 16 on the bem which is blue with red trace.

Sounds interesting! The only thing I don't like though, is that I like to be able to leave my windows down a tad on really hot days to allow a bit of ventilation as my car is in an open car park all day. Can't really see anyway to do that if it winds it up automatically!

Poita, if you look on ebay, there are modules that do this, but I would assume they are a little bit more expensive and complicated to install, however, don't take my word for it.

That is the BEM. (BCM is just another name for the same thing) It shouldn't be just hanging there. there is a mounting bracket thing above the fuse box. you can see it if you take the plastic dash piece off. The BEM clips onto the bracket.

02-12-2009, 11:17 AM
Haha yeah, i thought it looked a bit suss....it appears the previous owner has taped it to the inside of the plastic dash piece and the tape has come loose...
Alright sweet, i think i know everything i need to know in order to start. Also, any ideas what would be the closest ACC cord would be? Is there one in that bundle of window wires (that goes to the window buttons)? I have a ciagrette lighter in my center part, I assume that's best if there isn't one in the bundle?

No, the TE/F has a remote central locking box (but will work the same way with the window thing) where the TH onwards have the BEM. AFAIK, the only car to get the BEM before the TH was the XI Veradas with the Etacs system.
Also, any ideas what would be the closest ACC cord would be?
Personally, I have used the power mirror supply (solid blue from memory, check the Tech manuals). Its close and easy to get to.

hey _Nick_,
im investigating now, and i notice that there is a blue wire with red trace in the bunch of wires that go to power window buttons. Is this the same as BEM wire in point 16?
Also is there a guide (in operations/service manual?) that tells me what wire in that bunch does what?

Could have the module run through a switch. Then just turn if off when you want the windows kept down.

[QUOTE=Sky-na;1168432This makes me want to have electric windows now :P[/QUOTE]
I am in the process of adding an aftermarket power window kit to my 3rd Gen TE Executive. I started a while back (done the motors for both back doors and wiring into one) but have been in the hospital for some time and unable to do anything to it. I thought about adding an autoclosure module too but it is easy enough to add one later after I know everything else works well.
Got the 4 window power kit which is a good quality one from Rapid Electronics and they also sell 2, 4 and 5 window autoclosers.
I have photo-documented the windows up to the point I'm at, so when done I might post it in case someone is interested along with the autocloser.

@Tee Jay,
I've installed the module, (just testing with drivers door window first). So out of the wire from the module ive plugged:
-the positive into positive of my airhorn wire
-the negative (ground) into the ground of my airhorn wire
-the acc into the blue wire of windows loom
-the security wire in to pin 16 of the BCM
-and spliced the first set of wires into the cable for windows up of drivers side door
When i lock the car, the module makes a click sound 4 times about 10 seconds apart (i assume once for each window). But my test window, (drivers door one) doesnt budge :(
Any ideas on what iv'e done wrong? Anyone who lives near glen iris willing to give a hand? :(
timmy_666

ok ive progressed a little bit, turned out id blown one of the circuits on the circuit board of the module, i soldered it together again. Now I have it working, but each window only goes up for a second upon lock....any idea what ive done wrong?
