Some times having a bit of knowledge is worse than having no knowledge.

Now i know a little bit about the fundamentals of sound and wiring etc,and i am wanting to install a sub in my car which has an l.p.g tank in it.

So,i know that i need a two channel amp wiring kit to wire up the power and to run the rca leads from the sub-out on my deck to the amp, which is a Kenwood kac-5203 (max power 350 watts..ooo..scary).

I realise that i have to run the rca and amp switching wire down the drivers side of the car.

Can i run it down the middle ?

and that i have to run the power wire down the left side of the car.

I know the power outputs arent huge,as im just looking for a bit of doof doof...

So, i understand that the amp can be bridged to wire up the sub.

Now,im looking at a Sony Explode 1000 watt sub in a box...

edit...the sub im looking at is already built in a box and im assuming its an original Sony one as it is grey and has the Sony word embossed into the carpet.
So the questions now are..

Is this sub okay to run with this amp ??

Where/how do i get the power wire through the firewall ?

and where in the boot should i earth the amp ?

Having a gas tank, what is the "best way " to mount the amp and face the sub??

Do i mount them on an mdf board the size of the floor and have the sub towards the rear of the car with the sub facing forward or place it at the back of the tank and face the sub which way..?

Not that it makes any difference, but i have one of those factory "tank" covers,so you cant actually see the tank.

I know these may be noob questions, but we were all young and stupid or old and dumb at some stage,so im just looking for basic answers and not a condemnation of the gear i have or recomendations to go out a spend a squillion more dollars, lets face it,im just trying to get " doof-doof " as cheap as possible...

THANKS

just run the rca and power wires down the middle of the car to save effort.. but run them on opposite sides of the 'diff' hump so they have a bit of distance from each other. firewall hole is found in the most annoying spot ever on a 3rd gen magna, dead center and quite low, so the cable comes out kind of underneath the head unit.

plan on buying a prefab box or making your own? either way, put the sub behind the wheel arch on the driver side, facing the rear passenger door. just screw the amp to the sub box for ease.

cbf looking up the sub so i cant tell you if itll suit or not. im sure someone will fill you in :)

if i answered something a way you werent expecting to... im tired and intoxicated so dont blame me :P

Woob it is unlike you to have a few beverages lol.

Sub and amp will work, Sony sub will be rated at about 250-300WRMS and the Kenwood may push 180-200WRMS at full tilt. Perhaps mount the woofer in a ported box to raise efficiency otherwise you may not be happy with the results.

If you are lanky like me, firewall grommet is not to much of a problem. Just be careful as a lot of important wires go through there.

Ground the amp on a bolt in the boot, try and keep the wire as short as possible and sand back the paint were you are mounting it.

Having a tank you will need to play around with the sub a little bit to see where it sounds best. Try aiming it at the rear tail lights and go from there.

I condemn the gear you want to use! I suggest you spend ONE SQUILLION DOLLARS! :D

Hehehe, on a serious note, I'm sure you will get doof doof with that. Depends on what you consider doof doof though. Just a couple tips in general, so not neccesarily in relation to the specific setup we are talking about, the best way to get cheap doof doof is to maximise efficiency. Mr Charisma pretty much already said this. Using a ported box will give you more doof and using a bigger subwoofer will also give you more doof. Having a 15" sub in a well designed ported/bandpass box would provide the best efficiency thus the cheapest doof doof.

Thats just my 2c.

The reason most people run the wires down each side of the car is simply because it is easier to do than the centre. At least that's what I found when I did mine.

As for the power cable, I searched around and found some pics from s-tim-ulate, found these immensely helpful when I did mine.

With you head in the drivers footwell looking towards the centre of the firewall, (level with the auto shifter) pull down the carpet. You'll see a grommet with a tube already going through it. Grab a screwdriver, poke a hole through, make sure you dont go too close to the metal as a cut here will result in a short circuit. Push the wire through from the inside of the car. It's hard to see from the engine bay as the grommet comes out just below the firewall deadening material.

also, on the passenger side footwell, there is a white plastic cover, behind the carpet, in line with the top of the gear surround almost (if that makes sense). I used a coat hanger to push through from the inside then taped my power wire to it and pulled it back into the car with the coat hanger.

Seats and carpet out you will obviously find it very easy to run cabling down the centre of the car, otherwise down the outside either side is your easiest option, keeping power and rca leads seperated of course.
