anyone know if the fuel economy on the v6's is as disgraceful as the 2.6's?

I wouldn't say it's disgraceful at all. There's something wrong if you have bad fuel economy.
With the sohc 12v V6 I was getting about 550-600kms per tank no problems, thats with having a slightly heavy foot.

13L/100Kms on Optimax; 9-5 driving to work and back reasonably heavy traffic but lead footed + giving it a squirt over the weekend..
I think I copped the worst, 380-420 to a tank, but that was with a nearly ****ed motor in the thing!

I do alot of highway driving for work etc etc so i can get just over 400k's to a tank in the TS. I can never fill the tank more than 45 litres!! Thats not too bad.

I do city driving, 2 hours worth each day, I hate Sydney traffic, bah!
I've the 2.6 as well and I can only do 400km per tank with the above conditions, although i am constantly pushing it (as you do for a 4cyl car).
But I can do about 600km per tank if I'm on a highway.
Mind you, I used to be able to get over 400km before my wheels grew 2 inches  . I may well need to recalibrate my speedometer (as well as my odo).

you wanna see what i can get on my TR then. With 16" mags and extractors im supposedly getting about 360kms a tank. Mind you i havnt got my odo/speedo fixed to account for my larger wheels so im probly getting close to 400kms a tank which is fairly usual for a 4cylinder auto. Was a lot worse tho before i got the fuel injectors cleaned.

My 2.6L TR GLX always gets over 500km a tank and averages around 540km a tank. I'm grateful that I think I got a good engine from the factory and pretty much all my driving is in the city. My friend has the identical same model car and only gets 350km a tank. Both are manual as well. Even stranger is that my engine has done 207,000kms and his has only done 140,000kms. I also usually have the aircon on level 1 put into "econ" as well. I've been thinking of upgrading my car, but the body and the paintwork, the condition inside and out and the engine and mileage etc is fantastic for a 2nd gen. I would hate to sell a 2nd gen in awesome condition with a resale of just an average 2nd gen. I think I willl hold onto my beast for a while, put a few little mods on and in the long-run pay less insurance and keep depreciation down.

No it isn't. I have a TS V6 manual, and had a TS 4cyl GLX (carb) manual which had terrible fuel ecconomy!
With the sohc 12v V6 I was getting about 550-600kms per tank no problems, thats with having a slightly heavy foot.
 I ENVY YOU! I get 400kms/tank normal driving.

I have a 92 model 2.6 5 speed with a XFORCE muffler that gives me at least 600klm's from a tank of petrol
I get 11.7 litres/100km on Mobil Synergy 8000 with mods as illustrated in my profile.
This is medium start stop suburban driving with the occasional city driving and give
it a daily pounding as well. 2/3 of the time is with 2.5 people on board.

My V6 manual gets between 9.8 and 10.5 litres per hundred week in week out. Might change a bit when i hit calder park in november
My car guzzles fuel like nothing, and I can't work out why. Have spent probably close to $1000 taking it to mechanics for tune ups, injector cleans, checking the sensors, etc. etc. etc. and they all say its running spot on and nothing is wrong.
I use between 13 ane 15 litres per 100kms (around 6.5km - 7.5km per litre). I normally fill up 50 litres and this gets me between 350 and 400kms per fillup. My driving style is "entusiastic" but most trips are short... between 5 and 15 minute trips three to five times a day.
How bad is that economy? Very bad or about normal?
