Where did it come from in the car? Is it a speaker? Maybe an alarm component?

Did you consider trying to trace back what it was hooked up to before you blindly ripped it out of the car?

I wonder if this particular unit masks the temp sensor signal from the engine to make the ECU think the engine is cold all the time.

i just took it out of the car, which by the way, runs fine. I doubt that it was meant to be there as i can see where it was soldered, and the wires were different diameters which is unlikely for a stock part.
Now leave the guy alone and answer the questions, give him a hand not shit, way to treat a new member guys. sorry pimpin i have no idea what the part is. however as lugo suggesed you could figure out what it was attached to, and that would give a good indication. there are wiring diagrams in the workshop manuals in the thirdgen section if you are unsure what it was plugged into.

Having never bought one of those eBay chips I can't honestly say that I know for sure that this is one, however it is installed just like one would have been, and given it does not connect to anything else and just sits inside a non-marked, relatively generic electronics box... I would tend to agree that it is a chip. Either way, you're no worse off without it.
