I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right area, but the bf has asked me to ask you guys what bolt on mods there are for a 2001 TJ Magna Solara.

We're doing the obvious, exhaust, slotted rotors get picked up tonight, pod filter....
But what other mods can we do that don't take alot of money/time to put on?

Yeah, I got one of those the other day, awesome difference.

Also got a Manifold Gasket and Fuel Rail Kit from Barry.

Put them all on at the same time, so not to sure which did it, but very happy with the results.

Other than that clear side indicators are a must for a cheap mod.

Power wise, extractor (pacemakers or hm headers), high flow cat, rear muffer, if you want to go a little further get ralliart/380 cams, ecu reflash by skr will tie all that up for better gains.
Handling wise, lower/stiff springs, better quality shocks (Koni being the higher end than best value will be Boges), adjustable rear sway bar.
Don't worry about the pod if its going to be in the engine bay, it'll give you induction noise but won't help performance with hot air in the engine bay. Stock set up with paper filter is good enough, ask Type40.

*can of worms is opened*

in my opinion the high flowed throttle body is a waste of time, the small 'lip' which is removed is an 2/3rds of **** all over the entire flow at 100% full throttle, the 'increased throttle repsonse' is a placebo effect based on the fact that the throttle body is more open at that amount... you can make your own high flow TB by putting the foot down a tiny bit more. In my opinion the amount you pay for it is hardly worth the increase (which is none)

On the pod filter debate, if you dont have the correct oval pod filter your going to go backwards, even if you do have the right one its extremely difficult to shield it from the hot engine bay, my suggestion, make up a CAI onto the front of your stock airbox, at the moment my cars got a K & N in it because thats what the previous owner had but if it were my choice id be back in a stock mitsu pannel filter to be honest.

'Bolt On' mods in the 3rd gen is a touchy subject. The tried and true results are pacemakers with a full exhaust, then get a steve knight tune with some 380 cams in it. Theres not much else you can do after that without spending huge coin.

Have zero belief on these working either, even Barry himself hasnt come up with proof that there is any benefit! But feel free to keep wasting money on these 'mods'.

+1
When i had one on my auto, it made the car so much nicer to drive. No power increase, just a lot smoother

You pretty much posted exactly what I wanted to post, word for word. That's uncanny. :gtfo:

Beyond this you're really looking at cams/engine build. Not much more can be gained without doing the top end (cams, valve springs) or going with FI (supercharger/turbo)

not so much worried about power either. more so making a smoother drive, looks, etc. i think the next thing to do will be rims. probs 18-19s

According to Steve Knight, the Magna throttle bodies used to be the 'hi-flow' design, but were modified to slow down the initial acceleration so that little old granny doesnt lose control when the sudden surge in initial acceleration catches her off guard.

He believes it is a worthwhile mod to any 3rd gen.

Given his experience, i'd tend to defer to his opinions.

Rims, brakes (you mentioned slotted rotors) anti roll bars, strut brace, leather interior, alcantara dash and inserts, gear knob, a good detail?

Whats that?

It's a composite materal similar to leather/suede. It's used now on a lot of high end supercars. Lamborghini use it inside the Reventon and Gallardo Superleggera.

So would you do that too the removeable parts of the dash then? Or would it be possible to actually make it adhesive and attach it to the whole dash?

This is a good point/question. I want to get my entire dash on the Evo done in Alcantara one day. I was thinking of ripping the whole console/dash apart and sticking the Alcantara to each piece of the dash, then re-assembling it all for a nice soft touch finish.
