Hey dudes.
Bought a trip computer with clock (PN MR908656) a while ago and i'm just wondering if i'm able to fit this to my TE Altera?
I realise the trip computer part probably won't work without doing some mass wiring work, but i only want it for the clock, anyone know if/how i can install this??
Thanks in advance!!

Does the TE Altera have the "mode/up/down" buttons on the instrument cluster bezel? (to the left of the steering column).
Those buttons are used to set the clock in TJ's (the only 3rd Gens I have owned).
It will be possible to install without these, but would require additional wiring skillz and some switches being added-in - I recall some member installed a clock and used generic switches hidden somewhere for setting the clock. Search might bring the thread up.

i am interested in this to, if it is just the clock, wouldnt you just need power? like a stereo, constant 12v and accesories? the clock doesnt rely on any other part of the car accept power i am guessing?so no harness changes just a couple extra wires. and a place to put the adjustment buttons
also i think te's have a different ecu steup to tj etc, there is no bem on te, because there is no immobilisor, so the is only an ecu. so i dont think you could get anyother functions to work unless you changed ecu and harness'.
madmagna will know.

All 3rd gens have an immobiliser and TE's definitely have a BCM to control the power windows/locks etc so I'm not sure where you're getting your information from.

mt car most certainly does not have an immobiliser, and it is a te,
What makes you think that?

Slim, I know where the info is coming from, he is in part correct but so are you
TE-F do NOT have a BCM as such, there is a receiver unit under the RHS of the dash that controlls the windows etc similar to a BCM but does not have quite the same ability as the BEM as we know it in the TH onwards. It was always called a receiver unit by Mits
Now
With the unit you have it is a KH onwards unti, either way there will be a tonne of wiring to do as these are actually set up to work with the high contrast or black out dash as they are known. The top harness is totally different
If all you want is a clock then there is an easier way. Get a speed alert from a KF, this has the clock function. There are a couple of wires to hook up and you are off and running. As you have a TE, you most likely do not have the speed alert in the first place so your best bet is a top dash harness from a KF to plug straight in or harness from a TF with a few changes to a couple wires.
If you had a TH you could do the mod easy enough to do run the KH unit as this is already set up for trip function.
BTW, while I am here typing, you could also get a TH harness and cluster and mod your clock unit to fit this so there are several options
Bellto, you are actually incorrect, the immob works off the key chip, the immob is located down under the center section of the dash and if this is not there, the car will not run

It came with the wiring loom, so basically i'll need to cut the loom, re-join all wires, then run the correct wires off to a switch of some sort????
EDIT: Thanks for the response Madmagna! Damn! So the unit i have won't allow me to have a clock without going to a lot of trouble??

if your game here's the pin outs [color] (connection)
1: Battery [RB] (radio)
2: Ignition [GW] (cluster)
3: Accessory [L] (radio)
4: Illumination + [GW] (cluster)
5: Injector + [R] (control relay below radio)
6: Fuel sender in [Grey] (cut fuel sender wire - tank to this pin)
7: Speed Sensor [WB] (cluster)
8: Injector #2 - [YR] (ECU)
9: GND [B] (cluster)
10: Signal GND [B] (cluster)
11: Charge Light [W] (cluster)
12: Low fuel [R] (cluster)
13: Oil Pressure [Y] (cluster)
14: NC
15: Down button [NG] (earthed (9) via switch)
16: Illumination – [BY] (cluster)
17: Fuel gauge out [GY] (cut fuel sender wire - cluster to this pin)
18: Alarm lamp - [LW] (fed ignition via lamp)
19: Up button [NR] (earthed (9) via switch)
20: Mode button [RL] (earthed (9) via switch)
if fitting to a "black out clustered" vehicle then:
6: Fuel sender [Grey] (cluster)
17: NC

Wow thanks man! Would my TE basically have the same loom as the unit?
What i'm really after here is could i cut and join every wire of the cars loom and join them to the correct wires running out of the unit? then run wires 15, 19 and 20 to buttons somewhere?? JUST FOR THE ADDED CLOCK.
Would this work? Sorry, bit of an electrical noob.

short answer - yes... 3 buttons are also for the trip computer functions

yeah, i said there was no BEM in a te,
and i always knew about the key chip (thats how i made my kill switch (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38050&highlight=kill&page=2)), but i guess i didnt really concider it an imobiliser, (but it is).
Thanks for clearing that up Madmagna - apologies for the misinformation.

If you decide the job is too hard I'll volunteer myself to buy the unit :D
