Well having covered the feild and considering the options,i have (sort of ) decided to get a 380.

I have my eye on a couple but want to know if they are resonable prices....

here are the two atm...380 GT (http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/search/vehicle-details/D_13490930/@type=cars&N=4294962119+45+4294966247++498+4294964741&searchType=1&vehicleType=1)

OR...VRX (http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/search/vehicle-details/D_13410050/@Ns=pPrice%7c0%7c%7cMake%7c0%7c%7cModel%7c0%7c%7cB adge%7c0%7c%7cSeries%7c0%7c%7cpYear%7c1%7c%7cpAdTy pe%7c1%7c%7cpSortDateListed%7c1%7c%7cpPhotos%7c1%7 c%7cpPrice_private_sale%7c0%7c%7cpPrice_dealer_tra de%7c0%7c%7cpPrice_dealer_retail%7c0&type=cars&N=4294962119+622++498+4294964741&searchType=1&vehicleType=1)

Now i know you will all say..yeah,get the manual, but is the GT worth it ( or both of them) at that price..?? or is ANY GT and around the same price as a VRX better value...and what would guys be expecting to pay.
I have around 20 k to play with....

but at the same time,i want to run gas on it...

How "bad " are the base 380 on gas that you can get from the auctions for around 15k in comparison...

Sorry for all the questions, but i want to get it right and obviously not pay to much (dont we all..)

Thanks

The GTs and VRXs are exactly the same mechanically. The only difference is the leather trim and wood grain inserts in GT interior.

The manuals in the 380s are very short geared and are actually slower 0-100kmh than an Auto...just to give you an idea :)

The both of the cars you have shown look very nice, I would be happy with either. But if you are after decent fuel economy with gas I would go the auto.

Personally I would pay the little bit extra to get a VRX/GT over a base model 380. You wont regret it :)

I might be confused here but the VRX you have shown does not appear to have the VRX front grill or spoiler? The front grill looks like an SX. Please correct me if I am wrong.

If you have $20k to spend then why not go an 07 Series III VRX? I reckon if you look around you could get one for that price?

I also believe that the original 05 models suffered some kind of injector problem. I am not sure about the finer details but it was fixed in the series II and III I think.

Cheers
Benny

Only the S3 VRX had the lower front grill and rear spoiler. The S1/S2 VRX are almost identical to a GT

They both look like reasonably good deals to me.

Only problem is they are both in WA and it could cost a bit to get one back to SA.

Each has it's pros & cons.

The GT has all the fruit, including a sunroof, less ks than the VRX, and only $1,000 more than the VRX.

The VRX is a manual - rare as hell and a 'sportier' drive than the auto.

And if the manual is slower to 100k than the auto it is SFA, and it all depends on traction at take off and driver skill.

Little doubt that at anything over 80km/h the manual will beat the auto for in gear acceleration, due to the shorter final drive ratio and the reduced power loss through the drivetrain.

But the manual has slightly worse fuel economy than the auto, especially on the highway in 5th gear, due to the combination of shorter gear & final drive ratios than the auto.

Personally I prefer the manual because of the greater control and precision over which gear it is in, and the instantaneous response.

So I reckon it comes down to your driving preference - do you want the ease & comfort of an auto, or do you want the sportiness, control and rarity of a manual?

Whichever way you go you won't regret getting one of these!

KJ.

Both those cars aren't anything special, both series 1.

You will find both are not LPG compatible.....no manual ever was, and you'll need a series 3 Gt or VRX for LPG

If it were me I would look for a series 3 GT over anything else.

I 'd get the leather, the sunroof, the bluetooth and be happy happy happy.

Funny, my Series 1 manual has the tell-tale three holes.

One day I might look into fitting LPG, just can't wear the loss of boot space at the moment.

A series 3 GT will be a bit out of his price range though

also from what ive seen its not incompatible, you can do it, it might just shorten the life of the engine? id go the gt, id offer to go check it out for you but im working solidly till i i leave for tassie on wednesday night. depending on which delaer its at i can pop out in a lunch break perhaps, offers there anyway.

Guys,

The manual is definitely not slower than the auto, it's just that it is only a couple of tenths ahead over 400m.

KJ380 is right about acceleration in the higher gears; the manual should have a big advantage.

The main issue between them is fuel economy on the highway which is just better for the auto due the ratios as he has said

I got the auto so my wife could drive it, but I don't regret that because the auto is quite good.

Either way you will be happy.

I'd definately go for the manual. I reckon a rare manual black VRX would hold its value better than an auto GT.
I also got my auto so my wife could drive it (and then she never did...).
I can tell you that Stealth/Black is a bitch to keep clean but they are very sexy when they are clean.

Are you for real? What are the material differences between series 1 and 3? It is not like the series 3 has 20kw extra or is a better drive.

VRX and GT were not LPG compatible until Series 3.

He has indicated he wants LPG compatibility.

they are all compatible, you can put either on gas. just one will wear out, while the other wont. there is not really any significant difference between those dubbed 'compatible' and those that arent. i dont understand why you guys get hung up on it.

I may be out on my own here but I would call softer exhaust valves significant. Also say bye bye to your warranty if you fit LPG to a one hole head. If you want LPG then go series 3 or sus out all the engines on the series one and two gt/vrx you may get lucky!

The GT would have really tempted me too but there weren't any around near the price of what I got the VRX for. Things may have changed though.

Personally, from a distance you cant tell if someone is driving a GT or VRX(except s3) until you get up close and bottom line there really is not that much difference betweem then,if I had my time over and had those two choses I would choose VRX being a manual and a year younger
