Hi guys got a question for anyone who has attempted or done thing before..

Basically my KS's shell is a bit worse for wear so i have brought a KR in the same colour (with sunroof) to use the shell.

Now My KSxi has ABS and SRS and the KRxi has neither. How big or hard of a job do you think this will be? Im going to swap the whole interior over which isnt a issue (because the KR has the blue, i want to put the grey in). And either way i was going to rebuild my v6 anyway as its starting to show signs of ware, so pulling the 6 out of the kr wont be a issue because i will freshen that up anyway, along with put my manual box in whilst its all out.

Im pretty mechanically minded, i've removed/rebuilt motors before but ive never done anything like ABS/SRS conversion. Quite frankly i know nothing about either of them.

I do realise at the end of the day ill technically be downgrading to a 91 KR from a 95 KS, but it will pretty much be the KS anyway and will be in better condition to what i have at the moment. Should be a nice KR though ;)

Or is it worth me just selling up and getting something else?

Thanks for any help

My guess would be if your going to have everything out you may as well just swap over the looms and all the electrics along with it... the KS loom may not have prevision for a sunroof though.

The sunroof will be aftermarket anyway so that will not be an issue

Will be good to swap the whole lot over as you will then rid yourself of the ECS wiring, hoses, tanks etc etc

Just swap the entire lot over bud, if you are half ok at what you are doing should not take more than 3 days at most to complete

would i have to swap every loom over, like everything from headlights to tail lights? or is the back of the car a seperate loom?

With the ABS, do i need to swap the rear brake lines or anything over (particually what runs under the car).

I should hopfully be picking up the car within a week so i havent had a chance to properlly look at it yet.

sunroof wiring isnt a issue at all.

whats the ECS? (probably a really obvious blonde question)

sorry i just worked out what the ECS is. Its definently a KRxi but i dont think it has ECS. I dont remember seeing it on the cluster

Agree with Mal. Having done the changeover of complete Verada interior into Exec without having a complete verada harness (previous rada owner had butchered part of it) and having to manufacture from scratch the power window looms etc would never go that way again. cuppas is right lynel is doing conversion atm which includes ABS & as far as I know SRS. Much easier to strip donor car and install it all in the new shell. Dont hesitate to PM if your stuck cause I know alot of the snags you might hit as does Tuffy Lynel and Mal.

thanks for all your help.

I have decided to not go ahead with the conversion. Infact i am very regrettably at the moment trying to sell off my car as is.

For what the whole thing is worth at the end of the day a '1991 KR' will owe me 10k on the road, which in fact, is just ridiculous. Thats to how i would like it anyway.

For what its worth im better off parting with the beloved second gen and just getting something newer in 2011 when im back on the road.

As much as i love the second gen, the shape, the way it drives, the look etc etc its just not worth it at the end of the day unfortunately.

I generally have a history of some decent modern cars and i shoudnt of tried to kid myself into believing that ill be happy with a old magna with 310,000km on the clock.

I do really like my verada for what it is but it has to go :(

i saw my name mentioned.

I would do the swap if it was free. By free i mean for everything bar time.

Todate my work on my car has totalled around the 2g mark, including DOHC conversion. Once painted and finshed the car will have cost me 3200-3500 including paint and onroads. I did a complete diamante 30m swap from the dash forward (although broke the dash and have gone to a KS verada dash). THe conversionowes me about 200hours over 4 months.

Not everything is exactly bolt on, for the abs and such, but there is littel cutting/drilling to be done.

Shame to here that the cost vs praticallity isnt viable for you. THey are indeed for there time a very nice and reasonable priced car for their purpose.

Yeah i would be able to do everything myslef, my car doesnt owe my much at all anyway. TIme is a big factor. I have a mortage and i need to work as much as i can, cant afford to take time off for this :(

I jumped at the idea of doing it (shell swap) at first as i liked the sound of the sunroof. its just not worth it for me unfortunatly.

Thanks for your help lionel
