So I had a woman hit me up the bum last week
And dropped to be repaired through the good folks at AAMI
Now I have a Molten Red GT and was told today that the repair needed to have the car longer due tothe paint being a three layered pearl
Now dont bother me cause I got a great repairer (he has repaired all my wifes mistakes)
But I just thought it was metallic but then you look at almost all the colours in the range and it seems they are a bit flippy
Away getting the reverse sensors fixed cause she messed those up too
now i just need to get the front fixed with stone chips and I will be happy

I have storm grey which is pearlescent and my repairer said it was the most complex mix (metalflakes etc) he had ever seen.
Apparently needs to be sprayed in a certain direction to get the effect (in the sun)

Yeah spoke to the repairer today and he told me off LOL
He said the other cars I had were easy and his painter was not happy first time round so they had to start again
I asked him if I could get an upgrade to SII by moving the badges he laughed and told me he would see what he can do LOL

Mecha - you think three layers is bad for paint....
my KL is Starlight white - is NINE layers of paint.... to get the final result....
Luckily for me when the front end on mine was painted (in both parked accidents... lol) i had the best painters paint my car - but I demanded them, because I wanted a perfect job (which they did).
The upside of your experience so far, they have allready painted it once -because they whernt happy with the way the paint came out.
Mitsubishi Pearls - look FANTASTIC, but rather difficult / time consuming to paint.
(il leave the 380 section now! lol)

Got it back today and looks amazing
the painter came and gave me a gobful for making him lose some hair after the first run LOL he is a perfectionist and he got it right and has done all my cars he said he has perfected it now so crash away (WHAT A CHEEKY BUGGER)
whole new bar from Mitsi and it now looks like a brand new car and my sensors work again woohooo
I should have got them to paint the rear insert a different colour but thats a job for another time
Oh and they forgot to put the badges like SII Oh well just glad it looks hot again EHHEHEHE
glad to hear Wombat, I had no idea you were in an accident!!!

I had a guy back into my passenger side front door last year and the Electro paint meant the whole side of the car was resprayed front to rear. The job was excellent and you can't pick the difference to the front and rear bumpers which were not done. The repairer used an excellent clear overcoat as well which has a great shine to it with no orange peel.
I just got the car back this afternoon after the Mitsubishi service guy scratched the drivers side sill last Friday. Haven't had a good look as yet but it looks like a very good job also. The repairer does the work for the BMW dealer across the road. Unlike the job last year, this repairer reattached the clear stone chip decals near the rear wheel. I know they are new as they have none of the old scratch marks from stone contacts. They finished off with a full cut and polish detail and she looks brand new.
IMHO the longer they take on the paintwork the better.

The wife had a bingle in our 380 recently and we needed a new front drivers guard and front bumper. Great repairer once again, and a top job. Car was perfect before and is again.
In regards to the clear stone chip decals near the rear wheels, I didn't notice them at first but when I did I removed them prior to doing a clay bar and wax job on the car. I didn't like the way they looked when they got dirty in a different way to the rest of the car, around the edges etc.

Those stone guards things always look dirty on mine no matter how much I wash them. Perhaps they need a polish.

Yeah, that's why I noticed they changed them this time. Polishing them didn't work for me. They're not cheap either at around $50 for the pair (door and sill) if I remember from last year. Easy enough to apply though...

I always wondered what those dopey looking bits of plastic were for.
I thought they looked terrible (and I had a few negative comments about them), so I pulled them off of my car a few months ago. They came off fairly easily, just needed a bit of rubbing with tea tree oil to clear up the glue residue.
Then I had the 19s fitted with 'only' 36mm offset, such that the rear tyres only just fit inside the rear guards.
Did a bit of bush bashing a week later, approx 30k on a gravel road. THEN I discovered what the bits of plastic were for - dozens of little stone chips where the bits of plastic used to be! Nothing serious or deep, and you have to look close to see them, but would probably stand out on a dark coloured car. Mine is Platinum (silver) so not very noticable.
So if you have a light coloured car (Platinum, Mawson White, Gold) and you never intend to drive on a gravel road then go ahead and take them off, but I recommend not removing them if you have a dark coloured car, especially if you do any gravel road driving.
KJ.
