Looking at buying a 2004 TL ES auto sedan
Approx how much should 100k km service cost-full svce and timing belt(?kit needed not just belt)
Have been given estimate of near $1k
Also remote central locking doesn't work (does with key)-is it hard/expensive to fix?
Car in good nick otherwise

Would appreciate any advice

1K sounds about right for a timing belt kit service...

Are you sure the battery in your remote hasnt just died?

I would see if you can get the owner to either get the service done before sale or get him to lower the price alittle more

As for the central locking, it may be the remote or the fuse for the central locking, new remotes are about 60 bucks from Mitsubishi

When I bought my car the remote didn't work. The battery holder had broken off the PCB. Apparently its a common problem and if are competent at board level soldering then its an easy fix.

First thing to do with the remote is check that it is introduced to the car, turn the key from Acc to On three times, and you'll see the indicators Flash once, it waiting for a button on the remote to be pressed, do so, within three seconds, if it works you'll get a confirmation indicator flash.

If this fails, then check Battery and contacts.

And at 100K service, I'd be tempted to replace (inspect, incase they were done at 90k) all fluids, PS, Brake, especially Transmission, all filters, Plugs, and whatever the Book says.

Worst case you have to pickup a new remote off eBay for <$50

Service estimate was for about $1k max.

Aerial doesn't go up/down fully(tries to) ?just needs a clean?

1K for a major service is pretty big. I'm getting mine done for 760 fixed cost.

Printed circuit board. The green board in the remote. Since you don't know what a PCB is I suggest you don't attempt the repair yourself.

$9k? Tell him he's dreamin'.
What is reasonable, then?
Assuming service done and remote fixed by owner.
Body is in good nick. Blue paint. Near new wide tyres and mags. Rear spoiler.

I paid 8K for mine with 80,000kms. And that was last year.

Pretty sure disciple paid even less.

I paid $6k for a 2003 TL ES 120,000kms. But, it needed a little work.

If it's in good nick with a good service history, assuming the major service is done (don't stress on the remote it'll only cost you $100 or so) then $8k sounds reasonable.

Is it stock? or does it have aftermarket parts fitted?

I paid $8500 for a TL AWD with 114,000km about 3 months ago which I thought was quite decent.

I wouldn't think it unreasonable to see if you can tactfully negotiate the cost of the 100k service out of their asking price.

Well I bought it; had it serviced.
One remote ok-re-programmed it.
Battery holder in the other one has broken off-Thanks Tobed0g. I have some very good soldering friends!
Needs new aerial-do I go genuine or non genuine replacement? Do the non G ones fit exactly or do you need to mess around a bit to fit them?

Also hax Maxxis 177" tyres, now done 6000kms-how many k's should they do?

Thanks for the replies to my previous questions.

depending on the model of the tyre, you should get at least 20k out of them. If they have done 6000k's already, i would take it to your local tyre shop and get a wheel alignment, balance, and rotation done. This will help prolong the life of your tyres, especially if they car is lowered. If it is lowered, make sure you get this done every 5000k's
