As title states, would 225/60/r16 be ok for the standard 16inch alloys without rubbing anywhere? ke diamante with the snowflake design rims. i can get some cheap as and need a couple replaced. current ones are standard 215/60/r16. cheers

I think they'd fit but if they're 16x6" rims like I think they are, really, they're too wide for the rim. Shouldn't rub anywhere no.

Using the 1010 Tyre Calculator (http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp);

For 225/60r16's minimum rim width is 6", so your wheels will be fine.
Your speedo will read 1.8% slow in comparison to 215/60r16 tyres due to the larger diameter. If anything your speedo will read closer to true speed as most are set up to read fast from factory.

So go for it :)

Hey mate.

I was told and am running 225 55 16 on the stock Verada rims as they are ment to be there size that keeps the speedo the closest to right.

One of the best things i have done gaining that extra width.
No more gutter rash from the misses parking and also massive improvment in grip levels and also the cosmetic fact that they look better too.

Yeah I'm running 225/55/16s on standard KW AWD rims with no problems even though the clearance is a bit tighter at the back on the AWD.

I have the pressure up at 40psi.

Legally a 225/60 tyre can be fitted to a 6" wide wheel but the handling will be hopeless and tyre wear on the outer shoulders will be excessive. Some have commented that they have 225/55 fitted. That is a much different tyre. Wall height is a bit lower by 6-7mm but wall construction is quite different so 225/55 is much stiffer. Also those that have fitted 225/55 probably have them on 7" rim.

For decent handling and tyre life you don't want more than 30mm tyre width per inch of wheel width. Ideally the wheel should be at least as wide as the tread, and up to 0.5" wider than the tread. That can leave the wheels vulnerable to gutter damage and tyre walls exposed to stone damage.

Cheers,
Alan

Thanks alan, i was thinking 225/55/16 but may stick to the 215/60/16 depends which fills the ttyre arch more, as im not lowered and having seen cars with low profile tyres on standard springs im not keen on that look.

Hey mate.

Have a look at my post in this Thread. It has some pics of the difference between 215/60 16 and 225/55 16.

The Green KH is a 225/55 16and the white AWD is 215/60 16. Both exactly the same brand/type of tyre so it is a good comparison to look at.

Much perfer the 225/55 if you can pay the extra $$

Yes the 225/55 is a much better fit. There is very little difference in the tread width compared to a 215/60, generally within 2mm, but the 225/55 has a slightly lower sidewall and is built a bit stiffer. This helps steering feel and tyre life.

If you drive twisty roads it would be worth your time chasing up some 7" x 16 wheels, or even 7-7.5" x 17 and going for 215/55 x 17 if they are a common tyre size where you are, so cheaper in good brands.

Cheers,
Alan

In agreeance with all previous posts, whilst a 225/60/16 will fit a standard 16 x 6 Verada/Diamante rim, it will not sit nicely.

Had a friend buy a KH a few years back and the seller put on some cheap China-brand, 2nd hand 225/60/16 and it looked really bad. Especially at the rear, the tyres bulged out past the rim a lot and the whole car looked as though it was on a lift kit.

Didn't drive well at all either, although that was probably due in no small way to the poor quality of those tyres.

225/55/16 is definitely far preferable than 225/60/16 on a standard 16 x 6 rim.
