Hi guys, I had to hit the brakes hard yesterday after some idiot ran a red light and nearly t-boned me and the next time I used the brakes I had this really nasty grinding metal sound coming from the rear of the car which continued after I took my foot off the break again and it didn't stop for about 100m or so.
Any ideas what this might be? simple rear brake pads gone or something?

I dunno if the rear pads are shot or the brakes did not disengage
(I am trying to describe something but I dont know the wording) GRRRR

Just took it for another run and now when I turn a corner the hand brake light is coming on for about 10-15 seconds randomly so I don't know if that's related but it's never done it before.

Sounds like a problem with the rear drum and the rear caliper is sticking. The handbrake light can be attributed to the handbrake engaging due to a faulty sensor or a problem with the drum.
Probably best to take the rear wheel off and have a good look.

as the other guys said sounds like its sticking on.. pretty common after the scenario you described...
does the noise go away if you pull the handbrake on a lil when driving?

Not sure haven't tried but I'll give it a go when I head out this afternoon.

Sounds like you'll have to replace the rear brake pads and re-grease the caliper slides.
