i was looking at a webpage full of jap import half cuts and come across a GTO half which included 3.0l twin turbo motor, gearbox and computer well everything in a half cut and i was thinking because they are front wheel drive what would be involved in putting a GTO motor into magna??? anyone know anything about or someone brought it up before

Thanks

The Mitsubishi GTO (or 3000GT) are 4WD TT I thought. Don't worry - I've thought about dropping that engine in the Magna aswell. I'd almost find out if you could mount it in to the FWD box (its essentially the same 6g72 engine).

Let us know what you find out tho ;)

thats what i was thinking when i was looking at a importers engine list....the gto would be your closest bet and i reckon it just might bolt up with ease and maybe to he standard box....ill give some people a call and see what we can come up with

I've talked about this before!

The gto motor is a 6G72 DOHC 24v 3.0l V6

It will bolt up to the TR/TS 5 speed manual boxes. Being 4wd doesnt matter as the motor is the same..it's the gearbox/drivetrain that's different..but since you're bolting up yours it doesnt matter.

Anyway, AFAIK the twin turbo version might not fot in perfectly, ie you'll have to move some stuff around. This is going by the pics from Craig Harrison's conversion, he's moved stuff around in his engine bay, but he's also running T-28's on it too!

Also from what I've found/read/heard the N/A dohc 24v 6G72 will bolt straight in.

This is the conversion I'm doing myself with a shitload of work done to it.

I only asked you to search around because this has been asked a lot before and I thought it wouldn't be hard to find the answer, but that's cool mate :)

Killbilly is right, it will bolt into a TR TS, but not a TE TF TH TJ.

Mitsubishi change the direction of the 6G72 in 1996 with the 24v engine, so if you try and bolt in the GTO engine, you will find the gearbox is on the wrong side of the engine bay :(

Mag net, if you have the money. RPW has a DOHC 24v MIVEC 6G72 waiting to be sold.

That WILL fit in the TE and on...Be a very unique conversion as they're a hard as motor to source.

I don't think anyone knows more about the GTO motor than killbilly.

Id have to call him our GTO specialist.

Only one person I know of that can put my dohc 24v knowledge to shame, that's Sam6G72. That dude can talk about that motor until my legs fall off!!!!!!! :)

That's a good thing if you're watching sam ;)
