Hey,
Just wanting some info, im about to install a auto trans cooler on the GTV and I was wondering(to save me stuffing around) if anyone knows which line, or side coming out of the radiator, is the RETURN to the auto? Greatly appreciated, this will save me a bit of mucking around.
Ie; drivers side or passengers side.....

Cheers
Luke

search is our friend :)

Hopefully you can ID the lines from that pic and comparing with your engine bay.
This is something I have to do also. I scored a little oil cooler from the wreckers, along with heaps of tube & connectors. Just need to clean it all up and fit the sucker.

My 2c when i was fitting tranny coolers to Subaru's I put them in line. Using a tranny cooler and the oem one in the radiatior.

Like Gelise's pic cut the line where is says "Cooler line" join that too the cooler, then with the outlet from the aftermarket cooler join that to the other end of the "Cooler Line". Mount the cooler in front of the Radiator / Condenser Assembly

great minds think alike, exactly what i was planning on doing.

my kit didnt have any brackets or anything, just these cable tie like things that have caps on the end, hold the cooler in place throught the fins of the radiator.

It will work fine mate. Just make sure it wont vibrate and the trans cooler lines are tight with quality clamps.

Cheers, its got these pads to fit between the radiator and the cooler to stop any vibration.

Also the factory cooler lines are a weird size like 5/16 or something like that, so you may need reducer hoses to compensate for the smaller fittings.

Never had that problem myself... Just used off the shelf oil line from super cheap, 2x 1m lengths of it to the new tranny cooler on the front of the radiator.

the kit came with 1 metre of line think its 5/8 hose.

Just fitted a supercheap cooler tonight ($119). While I would've liked to have fitted "in line", via the cooler line, but I found it easier to fit it on the return circuit. Less disassembly work anyway. I'm a little wary of the clamps, might replace those later.

It will still be "in line" if it is on either the outflow side (cooler) or the return side. The only difference is which cooler the oil goes to first, radiator or new cooler. The oil will still flow through both one after the other. The alternative is to block off the radiator circuit and replace with the new cooler if you suspect the cooler in the radiator is blocked or corroded.
