View Full Version : Changing fueling in a 380

Hey guys

A quick question, has anyone used a MAF interceptor to alter fueling in a 380. I know the 380 runs a hotwire MAF, so essentially the signal form the MAF could be intercepted to fool the ECU into thinking the load on the engine is different, hence pumping in less/more fuel into the motor.

This is very similar to the way the Apexi SAFC/SAFCII work.

I know there are piggyback ECUs, but I am thinking of fuel economy on a budget :)

Fuel consumption is more about how you drive. At light throttle the ECU goes "closed loop" so the engine gets fueled at 14.7:1 A/F ratio. The Lambda sensor dictates that. No amount of fiddling will alter it from 14.7:1. The only time an interceptor changes fuel is when the ECU is "open loop." Basically thats when the engine is below normal operating temp or accelerating.

When the air flow signal is tampered with not only is the fuelling adjusted, but the spark advance is too.

Cheers,
Alan

Yep Im aware of that, but as you know SYd isn't completely flat so leaning out some of the "open loop" conditions will not only yield in slightly lower fuel economy but theoretically free up some extra horses.

I have the availability of a dyno so it will obvisouly be done under the supervision of a professional tuner. A dyno run before is mandatory to see where the a/f are. Iheard stock 380's can get as low as 10:1.

Thanks for your response anyway, cheers
