Hey guys,
This is probably a dumb question, but a few mates of mine have been trying to take out my radio, to replace it with an alpine headunit, the only problem is that we are unable to unscrew the aerialwire so i can screw in the 1 from the alpine headunit...
I dont want to cut the wire and then wire it up to the new headunit because i may want to put the stock 1 back in 1day due to sale of car or something else,
Model : TR magna :)
Thanks for your help :eeek:

Ive done the stereo twice in my magna and in both my previous cars and the arial was always a standard plug that you can just pull out of the back of the old head unit and plug into the new head unit.
I have also replaced the entire arial on my magna aswell as the extending metal part of mine had been completely snapped off. Unfortunately you cannot just replace the metal part, the whole lot needs to come out.
I did it many years ago but from what i remember i brought a full replacement from an auto store, pulled the old one out and put the new one in.
It was a bitch of a job and i remember i tried to pull the new one through the same route the old one went through using a pull string thati attached to the old one when i pulled it out but it just kept getting caught on stuff and eventualy broke from me pulling to hard. Luckily there is a little hole at the top of the pillar on the inside of the car that you can pull the arial cable through then run it down behind the pillar trim and under the dash (as opposed to trying to run it down inside the pillar itself as the factory one does)

ohk thanks Cobra, oh your located in SA 2, do you go to the amc meets?
so basically your saying the arial wire comes out the back of the stock head unit? because my mates were looking further into the car 4 the plug

Your mates obviously have as much idea on how to put a head unit in as you do. On every stock head unit that I know of in the second gens (hell and the third gens) the antenna wire plugs straight into the head unit. It needs a bit of a tug to get it out but it's very easy to pull it out.

Right, well every Australian delivered car I've worked with and even some Nissan imports I've put stereos into have plugged directly into the head unit. You need to grab the plug itself and pull it out with a bit of force, it's in there pretty tight usually. Don't grab the wire, good chance you'll yank the wire from the plug, then you'll be up shit creek.
