When the aircon is on full, should both radiator fans come on of just one ?

On my car only the drivers side fan comes on ?

My car is overheating slightly when stopped at traffic lights and is fine when driving along

TIA :)

on my old 95' TS both fans came on when aircon was used, only one when the engine was cooling

No idea whats happening, I jiggled the fan fuse, tuned the aircon on full and then turned on the ignition (not started the car) and both fans come on ?

I'll have to take if for a drive to see if it's still overheating ?

yeah the 2nd fan is to draw air in to the condensor, it should come on. Is the fuse loose? The holder its in may be loose, If not, Change the relay buddy.

Thanks, I think it may be more than the fans and I'm taking it to the mechanics tomorrow

Basically when driving on acceleration the temp goes up to 3/4 and the motor misses and acceleration is poor, usually the temp is at 2/4

I think it is a blown head gasket, but the oil and water are fine not milky

The fan itself could be a dud mate. Simple way to check is turn the AC on, and prod the plug that goes into the fan, see if its getting power. (test light or multimeter)

Your thermostat could also of shat itself. I'd be replacing that.
If its a blown HG you would have oil pissing out. Been there done that

Thanks, both fans appear to be working and I will ask the mechanic to check the thermostat

If it was the thermostat, then would that cause the motor to miss and cause poor acceleration ?

TBH, Would not know the answer there....I'd have to leave that to Mal or magna buff.

could it be a dirty fuel filter ?

Fan could be a dud, I had one go not long ago.

Could be wiring too though.

I think there is a sensor at the bottom of the radiator that tells your fans to come on and off, i think your temp should stay pretty much in the middle of hot and cold (well mine always does) so maybe that sensor could be having issues...... (total stab in the dark there)

Thanks everyone, got the car fixed today and it was the thermostat :)

EDIT: the fuel filter was clogged up also

I also have a problem like this.

Ever since i bought the car in 2005, the A/C only cools when your moving and I knew this wasn't right - tried to explain it to mitsubishi once and they didn't really know.

I know both fans work... but they only come on when engine is at temperature. Guess it is probably a second relay or something - I have had to replace the relay for the radiator fans before.

I'm about to sell the car and I'm trying to iron out any issues. Any ideas?

As in the Air con only cool when your moving?

Yes, it is only cool when the car is moving (ie. air flowing through the A/C radiator thing)

Might have a blocked condensor, condensor is for your AC, sits in front of the radiator. if your AC is having trouble keeping cold take it to an AC specialist

The second fan on my TL cuts in and out whenever the A/C compressor cuts in & out ie: when the cabin temp comes down to the setting set by the driver.

Cheers

In both my TSs both fans work together, whether its engine heat that turns them on or if I turn on the aircon. I had to replace both fans in the V6 auto when I bought it because neither worked. $45 from u-pull-it. To test them, pull the plug from the bottom of the radiator and short with a paper clip. Both should turn on if you turn on the ignition. If one doesn't wriggle the plug that feeds the fan. Could be a bad connection.
