Hey guys,
i got my hands on a set of AWD Brake Calipers, now the dust seals around the pistons are split, just wondering if i was just to get the rebuild kit and just do the dust seals on both Calipers my self. The local Breake shop wants $225 to just to the dust boots.

Check with PBR they should have a caliper rebuild kit you can buy

Yeah, as Mohit said.
You can get a genuine Mitsu kit, but I'm unsure of there's any difference between the 2 - except about $50. :woot:

Not the hardest job you'll ever need to do. Good hands-on experience for most.

"PBR caliper service kits are available as either minor kits - which include all the critical rubber components necessary for a basic hydraulic overhaul, or major kits - which include all of the minor kit components plus pistons and guide pins etc."
I'm interested to know, does anyone know the product numbers for the various service rebuild kits for all of the 3rd Gen Magna brakes?

Bit of a thread mine, but have been researching the caliper kits and their avaliability for the AWD twin pot brakes. PBR do not make the rubber caliper kits for these, confirmed by calling them after reading their on-line catalogue. The only place they are avaliable is Mit$ubi$hi, $155 for the set (both sides). Not a "standard" part they keep and they do need to order them in, with a "couple of days notice", (from 2 dealers in Sydney).

You should mention the kit is Sumitomo from Japan, so doesn't get much more legit than that.

how did we go with these kits?, my local brake shop cant find any, and Mitsubishi wont sell any to me because im not suppling a VIN number, because apparently the brakes have changed with every model and trim level:nuts:
im pretty sure AWD either TJ/TL Ralliart and evo 1-5 would all use the same piston boot seal. but i guess trying to tell an "expert" they are wrong doesnt sink in

Hey i work in automotive spares and we mainly do brake and clutch parts, so i can have a look for a kit for you tomorrow when i get a chance. Just shoot me a pm with the model car the calipers are off and if you also could, a diameter of the piston...

I'm pretty sure it's only the Evo 4-5 (& ralliart) that share the caliper.

This parts list post (2007) has some info which may help you along http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39415&page=3&highlight=caliper
Now using those part numbers and assuming they're all 100% correct, here's a comparison of online prices to what was quoted locally in 2007.
Front Flex Line (MR205019) $88.20 each, need 2 US $32, Japan Not shown
Bolt to attach the flex line (MB082326) $11.45 each, need 2 US $5.50, Japan $4.70
Copper Washers to seal flex line (MR908255) $2.35 each, need 4 Now superceeds to MA111832, US $1.09, Japan $1.54
Caliper Seal Kit (MB857840) $76.65 each, need 2 US $34, Japan $31
Caliper seal part numbersAW349941 superceeds to MB857840 and collectively they cover 1997-2005 US Diamante Models.
All these are OEM Genuine part prices.
I'm a little suspicious about the flex line number not coming up in the American and general Export catalogues and then getting a price listing in the States?
The LHD versions in the US show MR908206 front lines.
I'm quite confident that the seals will fit into the 8-5/8" x 5-3/8" x 1-5/8" Small Flat Rate USPS Box @ $13.50.
Maximum weight 4 pounds.
That lands the seal kits at your door for under $90. The bolts and washers would fit too and possibly the brake lines. Or if a few of you are after these you'd fit a few kits and your freight will be SFA.
There's a good chance that the pistons are these MB857837 @ $35 approx per piston ($140 for Qty 4) ,which fit the Twin piston calipers fitted to the US model Diamante are MR249964, MR249965.
They also fit a long list of other Mitsubishis fitted with Twin pistons including EVO 4, Galant, FTO, Diamantes Gen 2 & up, Pajero, 3000GT, Outlander.
And yes it seems to be a standard procedure , No VIN, No assistance. I guess they're covering themselves given they generally will need to order bits in from O'seas anyway. If they get it wrong then they're stuck with the part AFAIK.
It's probably not that hard to get a VIN, here's one from a 2003 KJII AWD on sale 6MMKJ9F422T007736
As far as them being experts?, well I requested a price and part number for a radiator cap. I then used this information to then order the part from O'seas. When it arrived it ended up being the condensor (overflow) tank cap (plastic cap with hose attached) which is not known as a radiator cap. At least I only paid $6 instead of the $20 I was quoted.
Also when I was enquiring about a suspension arm for my Galant, I asked if they could tell me if it was also fitted to the Magna sedans as well(which I strongly suspected).
They said that they were unable to provide that info, well that's bull because with the program they use, you can ask it to show other models applicable (within that market).
Very handy info when tracking down bits or going down the wreckers path.
