the low fuel light on the TF i just got doesn't seem to work. i ran it pretty low today. right on empty. no light. where on the dash does it come on? if it doesn't work, is it easy to fix?
my second gen verada fuel light never worked....

thanks for all your help. i will pull air vents off tomorrow & take a look...also, when i put it in drive, the 'D' in the middle of the dash doesn't light up...i guess that would be a globe as well?
how hard is it to pull the dash?

In the TF the fuel light is above the aircon vents.

Tobed0g - You're thinking of the oil light, bottom-left of the cluster, remove the cluster and you'll most likely find the bulb has blown (provided your fuel guage is working). The bulb holder comes out by twisting it (Anti-clockwise? You'll figure it out, only comes out one way!)

To remove the cluster:

- Drop the steering wheel as low as possible
- Unscrew the 2 top screws in the cluster surround
- Pull the cluster surround out till it "pops" off
- Disconnect the clock and cruise control cables
- Unscrew the cluster (I think there are 6 screws, may be more)
- Pull the cluster towards you, it should slide right out, disconnect the cable to the left

Behind it, you will find many twistable plastic knobs, twist these and remove, these contain the bulbs. Reverse procedure to reinstall.

EDIT: ABOVE SEEMS TO BE TH ONWARDS, SEE BELOW FOR TE/F

Yeah, on my TF the light is on the speed alert above the aircon vents, to the right.

You serious?

In that case...

To the left of the brake/clutch pedal, there is a wire that runs to the fan box from the top air vents, disconnect this and pull on the air vents, it will pop out. once popped out, there are 2 screws on the clock unit (left and right) - Unscrew them and slide it out, disconnect the cable at the back and it has the same screw-bulb kind of setup. If you hold the unit up to the light, it should outline a little fuel pump. Check this bulb.

Ya seriously. Crappy pic from the TF users manual. Mmmmhmm. He's probably either in bed sleeping now, or he's at his car pulling out the cluster. :D

Remove the screws where all the red dots are. Then remove the cover to gain access to the clip you need to undo.

Unclip the black cable from the bronze clip and then squeeze the plastic white clip (in the red dot) and pull the cable off.

Clip removed.

Once you have removed the clip, fimly grab ahold of the top console in the red dots. Pull out. (these are held in pretty firmly)

Top console removed.

From there just follow what Life wrote..

Those centre air vents are good fun to take out. When I bought my car mine was cracked in the corner but it disintegrated when I tried to pull the vent out...

Tip: If you shine a torch thru the gap there the column adjustment is, you can bend your arm around the back and disconnect the wire. Turns a 5 minute job into a 5 second job.

Naw just copied from some other guide. Twas an idiots guide, and pictures are always better to go by then a wall of text, especially if you've never done it before and don't know what to look for.

yeah i'm having major problems trying to get the vent out. i have unhooked the cable under the dash & i just can't get at it. i tried to levered it with a big screw driver but it looked like the vent was going to crack.
there is nothing to grab onto.

any more tips?

i finally got the vent out. (broke left clip)
the low fuel light bulb looks ok. i tested it on a multimeter with no resistance.

any other clues as to why it doesn't work?

it should come on when the needle is on the empty mark. right ?

Mine doesn't come on straight away when on the empty mark. Given a while it'll come on intermittedly, then it'll stay on constantly. You could always drive around till your bone dry, just to be sure, then fill up from a jerry can.

Not too sure how the whole circuit works. I think the sensor in the tank is resistive, as the float goes up and down the resistance changes which I guess where your readings come from. Maybe it's broke? Or your harness is damaged somewhere. I don't have the manual in front of me atm so I can't help.

Does the thermistor on the guage control the empty light?

No resistance.... as in, you got no resistance across the bulb? Generally means open circuit ie. blown bulb. Try on a continuity test, see if it beeps. No beep, no good. Or, if circuit runs off 12 volt (someone might be able to confirm this) could just connect bulb straight to battery to see if it lights up. If it's 12 volt, not a lower voltage from ECU or something silly.

thanks everyone......
