Hi all, I've been a member here for a while, had a few Magnas etc but my latest project is just using a Magna engine.

I am building a racecar and i have decided to use an almost new 6G75 engine I aquired from the Lonsdale plant just prior to shutdown.

I have some basic questions that i'm hoping the members of this forum should be able to assist with.

Basically, all i have is the engine. I was going to use it in RWD format using a Triton 5speed manual box but there's 2 things that i would like to know regarding the EFI stuff.

Primarily, can i get away with using an AUTO efi computer with a manual box? I was not sure if these are more of a PCM rather than ECM and whether it might throw codes if run by an auto computer.

Second, (this one might be a little harder to answer) Do i need to worry about the ECM security/immobilizer or can this be disabled?

Is good to see yet another 6G motor facing the track

There are several options you have. The auto ECU is fine to run with a Manual and if you can get one from a TJ onwards Steve Knight can not only remove the need for the BEM but also programme the ECU to suit your engine and specs

Personally as you are going RWD in a track car however I would use the funds allocated for the ECU etc towards an aftermarket ECU that you can not only tune but also keep some of the good parts of the 75 engine you have like the ignition system etc.

Not sure if there is any requirement to use the factory ecu in your class however given you are making a hybrid so to speak it sounds like you will have no issues here

If you are after any parts for the set up as far as the engine, looms, ecu etc go I should be able to provide quite a bit of what you require, if you are going the 74 set up, I have all the manifolds, TB, Dist etc etc that you will require to make this work

Thanks for the reply. It's good to hear i can at least use a stock computer for now. At the moment the engine will remain stock. We considered an aftermarket efi but initially this will be a low cost build and keeping it stock should help with that. It is a complete startable engine already just minus power steer, A/C and a starter motor/bellhousing.

Are you suggesting that it's not going to be usable in this config? I know the TB will face rearward - Perahps you have triton manifolds?? I'd be interested in an ECU and loom - what sort of price am i looking at? I'm fine with all the electrics for modding the loom to fit.

Correction, it's a 6G74 3.5L , not a 75....

Ok, as is a 74 complete engine then you will have no issues with dist, manifolds etc as these are all good

PM me or MSN me if you want to and we can discuss further what your needs are and then I can get what you will need to make this all run
