get em off :) takes 5 mins, makes a world of difference to the look of the car. No, there is no hollow hole behind them or anything like that. Once you clean the grime etc that has built up behind them, you will never know they were there.

took off my front ones due to scrapage, but left the rears just for practicality, just a few screws and i think mine had double sided tape a lil as well. easy job and yes does make a difference :)

few bolts and they come off. mine left bits of like melted plastic on it tho :( still working on getting that off
Remove bolts, pull off, scrape off sealant with something (thick black rubbery stuff, may be sikaflex?), and cut and polish area sealant was attached to and under where mudflaps were (this will removal the stains caused by sealant and dirt/grime buildup). Took me about an hour for the fronts. Had no rears.

Dont scrape the sealant off! Listening to dean will wreck your car . Just rub it off with the end of your thumb then use wax and grease to remove it if its the soft sticky stuff from factory and if it's sikaflex, will be extra work.
You'll only need a 10mm small socket of spanner to remove the bolts from the face side then there should be a phillips heads screw on the front ones under the sill panel.
Back ones should only be 10mm's holding it on but also have a 8mm just in case they have used different bolts in the past.
Maybe scrape was the wrong word then ^_^ You know what I mean, just remove it. Taking a spachelor or something to it = bad idea. I scraped it off with finger nails ^_^
