Hi all,

I am looking at upgrading the stock stereo in my 99 solara TH wagon and wanted a little advice. I have a few questions and am completely new to stereo installs, so please be patient!

Firstly, I am looking at getting this hu - Pioneer DEH-2100IB http://www.pioneer.com.au/en/Products/Car%20Entertainment/CD%20DVD%20Players/DEH%202100IB.aspx Can I just remove the old stereo and replace it with this one, or do I need to get a stereo plug adaptor, or do I need to manually rewire everything?

Secondly, I am looking at replacing the existing speakers, and have narrowed it down to these (Im on a tight budget!) Fusion 6.5" Encounter component - http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/australia/car-audio-1/speakers-5/encm650-20-product.aspx and Fusion 6x9" Encounter http://www.fusioncaraudio.com/australia/car-audio-1/speakers-5/enfr6930-18-product.aspx I was thinking of mounting the tweeters on the black plastic triangular strip on the door where the side view mirrors connect. Will these chosen speakers fit into my wagon?

Finally, based on the info above, will the system sound ok as is, or will I need to install an amp aswell? If I do need to install in amp, is there somewhere I can run the battery terminal cable without drilling a hole in the firewall?

Thanks in advance for your help and patience! I am new to car audio, but keen to have a go at it!

You can get wiring harnesses made by Aerpro which will eliminate the need to manually rewire everything. Get a Magna -> ISO adapter, then an ISO -> Pioneer adapter.

Verada models (and some later VR-Xes) had their tweeters mounted where you're planning on mounting yours. You can buy the pods that these models came standard with to mount your tweeters in, which gives your install a much cleaner, factory look. I can't remember the part numbers but they're about $20 new each from Mitsubishi.

If you're on a budget you can skip a speaker amp. IMO you'd want to spend more on your speakers before an amp would make a worthwhile difference.

As above.

Install the speakers first and see how YOU like it. If the set up gets you the results you are hoping for then that is great. If you would like ( need lol ) it to go louder and clearer, then an amp will help make that happen.

As I have said 1000 times before, when you replace the mids in the front doors, replace the plastic holder with an MDF item ( wood ). It will give your mids some kick and is relatively cheap mod vs results.

Did my doors like this.
and ran power cable through the steering rack boot as the 0 guage is hard to put anywhere else.
