Does anybody have pricing on what they paid for a power flush of their auto? I rang two mobs, both not entirely sure what I meant but the first said $320 and the second only $70. I explained I wanted a full flush etc to the second guy and he stood by his $70 price. Does not fill me with confidence, though a proper power flush for $70 would be nice.

got quoted $300 from Midas I would get another quote
70 bucks would not even cover the cost of the ATF
$70 labour is fair surely?
I would assume that doesnt include the cost of the fluid :)

The $70 dealer I just don't trust for them to know what they are doing after that conversation. Hasn't it been recommended to get the flush done by a dealer for that "special" Mitsubishi only oil? Keeping this car for a while so want to get it done right.

My Mechanic just ordered the ATF from Mitsi and did it himself
If its the ATF that is your concern just buy it yourself and get a Trans specialist to do it for you

I was quoted $145 by Ultratune - they said it's a little more pricey with the 380's as they have an auto trans fluid filter to replace which not all cars have - maybe the $70 guy didn't realise that...

The prices are all over the place. I have since rung an Ultratune and he quoted at least $370, more than Mitsubishi here! Canberra seems like a bad place for a power flush.
If I just asked for a Service on the trans, what would they do, just drain and fill it?

My mechanic said he was expecting to see a filter on the 380 (as in previous Magnas) but when he did the fluid change on my car he discovered there is no filter on this model.

I'm too scared to, not much confidence they will know what I'm talking about and therefore be able to quote me in confidence.

Honestly the guy I spoke to at MiDAS said to me he had not worked on many 380s but knew it had to have SPIII trans fluid and was keen to do it
The franchisee is usually the head Mechanic
I personally did not like mitsi service and my car goes to my Mech who did the power flush but was going to go to midas but he could not fit me in
Funnily enough my Mech did not know it needed SPIII until I told him Still I trust him

$180? That's cheap as for a Mitsi dealer. I would be worried they missed a step somewhere.

Well thats what I thought also, also might have something to do with the fact its a shared service centre...its technically a Holden dealership :eeek: and it was quoted in big writing on the wall. Transmission Service $175! So i got ripped off 5 bucks according to them lol
Thinking about it later I was told it needs about 15 litres to fully flush the transmission which would work out to well over $150ish our price...not sure what the trade price would be for that, Plus the labour which is freaking expensive as we all know. So I was probably ripped off and all they did was drain and replace what came out

More than likely, a power flush uses a lot more oil than a drain and replace, which is what most places know how to do.

When a workshop does a power flush, they use a machine very similar to this one...
http://www.autoprofit.com/images/ATF%20Bilstein_crop.jpg
They hook up the hoses on the machine to the inlet line and the return line of the transmission hoses that run through the radiator. They pump fresh fluid into the line with the machine while the engine is running which runs through the torque convertor and gear sets.
So basically it's pumping fresh oil in while taking the old oil out and dumping it into the machine. The clear bits at the bottom of the machine are used to monitor fluid integrity.

That price sounds about right mate. My mum had her 2002 Hyundai Elantra done at a transmission specialist and they charged her $179. Reason being the fluid was still in very good condition, so not a lot was needed to flush the box. Also, it's a Mitsubishi box, but they used a Castrol oil which is a little bit cheaper than the Mitsubishi fluid.

Not a 380 but a TJ Sports Wagon Auto Transmission service (40,000km) and Brake flush cost me $161 at my local mechanic. The brake flush is usually $55 by itself.

Dealerships charge retail price on the parts they fit in the service department anyway, so the trade price is moot.
