apparently the 380 VRX's have 8 speaker stereos (so reviews, carsales, and redbook say). i have found 2 tweeters in the dash, 2 speakers in the front doors, and 2 speakers in the rear shelf. Where the hell are the last two?

Non existent. I found out the same thing when buying my car, the websites lie! :(

That was a trick of words. Mine has 8 speakers; aparently how they make 10 speakers (for other models) is that the rear speakers are replaced with 2way ones. Hardly noticeable though.

You are right but Mitsubishi count differently. The rear 6 x 9 speakers are 2 ways and thus counted as 4 speakers. Add this to the 4 in the front and you have 8 speakers in total.

My wife's 12 speaker system is the best then!
(front = 2 tweeters, 2 doors, 1 centre, rear = 6 separate drivers in a rotating housing plus 1 4" sub !)
All factory Toyota, Jap spec "SLSS" system though.

I'm sure that marketing people have at the top of their resume "I can tell lies very convincingly"

I still say 6 speakers thats is nice

The 2 front (in door) speakers must be the 2 way ones then? 2 back, 4 front, 2 tweeters?

This would make sense to me as i had to have my left door speaker replaced under warranty. Only buzzed at certain frequencies so I assume it would have been only 1 of the 2 speakers blown in that whole 2 way speaker.

well this is interesting. and a little dissapointing that companies can twist words like that. but in the end who really cares 6 speakers are cheaper to upgrade.

Yes but not as bad as those Crommidores. Would have Ford long before a Holden.

if you pull out the 'tweeter' in the dash out it has a little midrange speaker and a tweeter so i guess you could call a 8 speaker stereo, i questioned mitsi and then looked myself
