hey guys. i have an issue that ive had since ive bought the car well for aslong as i can remmeber at least. its realy strange had a mechanic look at it and he couldnt workout the problem.
what happens is when im cruiseing at around 100kmph in 5th, and i put my foot down. the whole car gets a shake? its in the front end of the car? what could be causeing it.? when i get to about 120 its realy minor and you cant feel it much? anyone had a similar problem or ideas to why its happening?

to add to that. i have
had the tires balanced 3 times (happened when i didnt have rims either)
wheel alignments. multiple times.

My car started shaking when I went over 105 one day. Was only that one trip. Never happened again.

wheel bearings, cv boots.

Have a good look at yur engine mounts for a kick off.
Sounds like you have a resonation goin on though which may be a pain to locate.
If you can get someone drivin next to you on a multilane road to see if they can spot anything happening at the wheels, that might help narrow it down. Be bloody careful though.
Could be bearings, ball joints, cv's all sorts of thangs

brand new engine mounts so thats off the list.

if it was wheel bearings wouldnt it be all the time?
How are your cvs? Do they click at full-lock?

not sure dont think ive replaced them. no no strange noises or clicking. maybed abit of a sqeek at full lock but i thought that was my wheels rubbing or something?

wheel bearings make a whining noise if their is a problem but its hard to check for when driving cos of wind noise and such needs to be checked properly on a hoist

I was thinking maybe slightly loose rather than worn out.
Usually you feel it all the time unless they just resonate at certain speeds.

its allways 5th gear. when i put my foot down sends shakes through the whole car.

No, depends how badly worn they are i suppose.... Dad's started to make noises when doing 80+, got new ones and noise gone :D

could that noise be in the form of a vibration without noise? ;) if you get me

Had identical probs with both my TH Solara. Try getting another member or taking a similiar or newer car for a testdrive on the same piece of road. Solara had new KYBs 15000klm old pedders springs, greased up the strut tops in the process, new pads and machined rotors. Only thing I didnt do, after ringing 4 shops in Melb and 2 in Bendigo was the shafts, not the CV's the actual shafts. Apparently can cause serious shake issues, but beware, I was quoted $400 fitted.
KJ2 GTV on the same road, seems to have no probs. But the shocks and springs look very new.
With response to what THLAD79 said, I had a KJ with similar shaking issues, except mine was around 30km/h. Arguably more annoying, because you'd go past 30km/h on every trip!
Same rigmarole of going to mechanics, paying for transmission flush & reset (no fix), one dodgy mechanic reckoned it was my new Yokohama A500 tyres (not even an aggressive pattern) -- but it did the same before the tyres were put on -- finally came to the conclusion that it was the CV shafts.
I actually paid the $400++ for the new shafts, but the problem still persisted.
Not particularly happy......sold the car
I'm not saying the problem cannot be fixed, I just don't know what the cause is for it, unfortunately.

Mine used to vibrate when put under load in top gear. Some time later the gearbox (auto) failed. Replaced the gearbox and torque converter, but nothing else and the problem was gone. My suspicion was the clutch plates in the torque converter slipping and engaging when under load.
I'd like to throw a spanner into the mix. Have you tried swapping tyre/whee front and rear (keeping the side they are on the same). I had an episode of vibrations at 110km/hr in my old KS and it turned out to be a combination of one of the front wheels was no longer round and the tyre had a manufacturing fault where no matter how much you balance it, it still vibrates (I had it balanced twice with TyrePower and the third time with Goodyear and thats when they noticed it). I ended up swapping it to the boot and used the spare.

my tiptronic did that, went to auto barn and asked the guy he sold me wynns auto transimission treatment, and also there is a mitsubishi specific auto tranmission fuild that help smooth and refine everything, its still a bit hard from 1st to 2nd but fixed the vibration and the gear slipping

brand new rims. perfectly balanced cant be them

5 th gear at 100 kph and accelerating = probably the most stressful on the motor and gearbox - a good time for a misfire to occur and produce some vibration - try accelerating to 110 in 4th, then use 5 th. Accelerate gently; if the shake does not appear then I would suspect plugs, leads or dist cap breaking down under load.
Alternatively, try the acceleration in 5 th to get the shakes, then slow and go through the same speed range in 4th. If the shakes don't occur in 4th, then its an engine or gearbox problem rather than wheels, tyres or driveshafts. Could be a misfire or a clutch in the gearbox slipping and grabbing (?)

id hope that its not the clutch its only 3 months old and its an exedy light acceloration in 5th you dont realy notice it. but as soon as you put your foot down it shudders. doesent make it any slower just shakes. ill test it in 4th this arvo

mines manual. would gearbox oil do anything?
its allways 5th gear. when i put my foot down sends shakes through the whole car.
But does the wheel shake? If not, I'd be leaning toward a possible broke engine mount. I had one go in my old KE laser. I thought it was a wheel alignment issue but the shakes didn't come up the wheel. busted engine mounts in FWD cars show up as some very strange and illogical symptons

ok got some updates. it does it in every gear you notice the shakeing more in 5th at 100 tho. and while i was testing. if you turn the wheel right at 100 it gets a worse shudder? a different kind of noise. what could this be? cv's?

ok today we took the wheels off the front and had it jacked up. inspected everything. then we tested it with the wheels spinning and it seems that the front left drive shaft might be bent a little bit. it has movement of about 10 mm so i think thats where im going to start and ill get a reco one put in
