hey all,
My question is for the engine builders here....
I'm looking to put pistons in my 6G74 enging to increase my power without a rebore. Wishing to increase the ratio form the standard 9.1 to a 10 ish.
What piston choices can be used?
I heard that the Pajero units will fit straight in, is this true?

Pajero pistons are fit fine, but you will need to remove the engine for the cylinder walls to be honed. Best bet is to buy a whole engine from the wreckers, as cheap as you can, and get the machining done by a workshop so you can assemble it yourself. Its pretty pointless swapping pistons over if you aren't going to do some headwork, balancing, etc...

Your gonna gain sweet FA from just a compression change.....Not a good way to blow about $2500 in parts and labour...

Yeah thats the problem though, you have RPW cams....I'd be getting a custom set of cams even grinded in the USA if you have to to actually have some benefit. How your car makes 118kw atw's and say, type40's of 150kw+ there is defiantly something wrong, personally from what I've read about on here replacing pistons isnt the answer

Change the cams to ralliart/ 380 ones. Those RPW ones are most likely the cause of all your problems.
They probably will work better with higher compression, but the cost doesn't justify it.
Is Steve recommending you change the compression to suit the cams, or is he saying that the cams would need higher compression to work effeciently in your car? I would have thought Steve would be pushing you to swap cams?
You've got the SF manifold plus the RPW's, correct? I had the same, well Tighe's actually, but effectively the same cams. I ended swapping the cams as it was the cheapest option by far to get the car back to normal.
PM me if you need more info or ask Steve about the problems that I had.
