i have a 2000 3.5 eci-multi verada .the problem is there is two lights indicating on for 1st gear and the other is indicating which gear you put the shifter in but the car is in 1st.confused yet..i can move the shifter but the trans is not changing but there is two lights on.now if you disconnect the battery for 24hrs or so it seems to fix the problem and the car drives normally for a short time any ideas how to fix or what the problem might be ...merry christmas

if i knew what the idea was, i would be glad to help - take it slow and explain it as if you were explaining it to someone who didnt know about cars. Im catching something about no-matter where the shifter is...the gear doesnt change?

merry christmas. oh, and welcome to amc.thanks .you,ve got it when you drive the auto indicator has two lights showing when only one ought to be lit.and it won,t change gears.and when you disconnect the battery for 24hrs it either resets and the problem has gone for a while.merry xmas to you too

Does the drive light 'D' always stay lit and you can move the 2nd light? or?

tbh i was gonna say electrical, but if its effecting the transmission. then i am not sure what it could be!

try another tranny computer unit

because the reset only keeps working for a short time
on the unit you have in the car
so a trip to a wrecker that has one is an option

if that doesnt fix it ...it may be a solenoid problem inside the box
