ive got an intermittent drivers window as it only comes up sometimes. i have yet to have to do it manually, but i have sat in the car for 45 mins trying to get it up. i have found the plug in the door that is the window one and not the lock one. could someone please tell me the colours and what they 5 wires in the harness are. i want to bypass the switches to see if the motor is ok or if it is the switches that are doing it. thanks

all the wiring diagrams can be found in the workshop manual (download it here: http://www.lisho.net/?page_id=3).
check the rubber stripping as when that gets old it causes more friction.
there's also at least a couple of different designs of regulators, which the later designs seem to be a bit more robust. I swapped out my drivers side regulator (TJ series 2) for a TW one and it's a much better setup. check the wreckers for a later model car and you could be in luck!
cheers,

It is easy mate, your reg should have 2 wires, these are + and _ and reverse when the window goes up
Just grab power onto one side and earth to the other side on the reg, if it does not go, swap them, if still no good replace the reg.
Also make sure that ALL of your regs are well lubed on the guide rails as this is the biggest cause for worn regs and slow windows

Thanks that is the plan for today to go beyond that plug
Might not be related but when I bought my TL (with 100,000ks) the drivers window would occasionally not go down or not come up back. Fiddle with the switch or wait a few minutes and it would work. Soon after the passenger one started doing the same so I suspected a switch problem.
So I removed the switch-block and pulled it apart (internals went everywhere but it's not hard to work out where they go). Inside I found obvious signs of wear on the contact points.
I put a fresh dab of solder on the contacts, reassembled switch (that's the only tricky part) and put back in the car and the problem was gone. The window also wound up and down slightly faster as well.

Sounds like the issues I'm having, still couldn't figure out the wiring yesterday. Pulled the switch unit apart and it looks ok.
