I have a TJ Magna now it's been through about 8 mechanics over the past 5 yrs.

Now the problem is when the car gets hot or the weather is hot it goes into a stage where it's will start to jerk like it is either not getting enough fuel or power to something.

Now we been discussing the issue with friends and they think it might be the leads.

I am think of replacing the thermostat, leads, I need to replace the fuel pump cause the fuel gauge is stuffed on it.

If anyone can help it would be great.

Thanx in advance.

Maate,
try one thing at a time rather than a whole heap of things at once. If you replace the fuel pump and it fixes the problem then no need to touch any thing else. If the problem persists then look at the plugs & leads. Thermostats can be inspected / tested, probably worth checking that the electric cooling fans are working as well.

Where abouts in VIC are you?

Hi mate,
If you want me to look at the car I am more than happy to, I am the resident Vic Magna Guy lol

There can be a few things, some quite simple that will cause the issue you have

The cars done 226k kms, I now live in Wodonga. I have to change the pump cause it was a 2nd hand one and I want a new one, and I want peace of mind to know it's not the pump, I just have to find one for around $100.

Maate,
it's worth checking the float unit on the pump as sometimes they fill up with fuel and stop floating.

Cheers

Yeah I know there is not enough power getting to gauge on the pump cause I saw it getting checked.

As far the leads I had a proper look under the bonnet yesterday and realised that I can't do it cause of the intake manifold and the fact that I have never done one before. I also have to find the best price for the leads as most of the auto spare parts shops are trying to flog them off for about $130. But we'll see how I go.

Cheers.

The spark plug tubes have rubber seals fitted which seal against the rocker cover. Over a period of time they go hard & leak oil. To replace them you remove the rocker covers from the engine then remove the seals from the top of the tubes (sometimes they stick to the underside of the rocker cover). Whilst the covers are off you may as well change their gaskets cause they go hard & leak oil as well. Also worth checking the condition of the rear spark plugs whilst it's all apart.

Cheers

Search these Forums for "plug tube seals" and you will find some good advice - chief point is to be careful not to over-tighten the tin rocker covers (if you distort them, you'll live with oil leaks forever!). I found cheap rocker-cover gaskets and plug tube seals on EBay (details in old posts - use Search), which seemed to be OK but one set in particular (I bought 3 for 3 cars) was useable but a bit tricky to fit thru being distorted.

I got MadMagna (Mal) to do mine, as I got him to do the timing belt on all 3 cars in our family - I drive from Tamworth NSW to get these big services done - so if you can spare the time for a run to Melb, he'll definately do the right thing by your vehicle!!

What are these seals you guys are talking about the only one's I can think of is the seal that is attached to the actually leads themselves and the seals are not in any of the manuals that I have looked at.

Just my 50c worth but if you have electrical problems someplace else in the car

Yeah I know there is not enough power getting to gauge on the pump cause I saw it getting checked..

Then i would be checking the electrical connections No1, it costs nothing & can turn up a miriad of faults or faults in the making.

Took the car for a run to the shop and back which is about 10km's while I was driving it, it takes a bit of time to change gears it's like it doesn't want to but I'm making it but when it does it's like it's slipping into gear.
I had a look at the atf dipstick and it's looks fine to me it looks like it's been thinned abit.

Took it for a test run today and got fuel for it and it's jumping into 3rd gear, my brother in-law told me that all it may need is a auto trans service which is going to cost about $200-$300 so it looks like we have to save up a bit of money for that.
But other than that it seems it is going alright.

Fingers crossed hey.
