Guys I have been searching for the last hour or so and can't find what I am looking for. I am sure that I have previously read a thread on oil seal replacement but I can't locate it now. I have to replace an oil seal on my TM and am just looking for a heads up and any tips to steer me in the right direction.

Thanks

the timing cover seal
or the rear engine seal

both can be done in the car

if possible purchase the red colour seal as the black ones dont seem to last as long

The timing pully often gets a sharp edge where the seal sits and cuts the seal

The timing cover seal
the engine mounts to be undone
a way to tilt the motor so the timing pully can be taken out
and that seal replaced

the rear engine is gearbox and flywheel out
its a round seal so the crank doesnt have to be touched

Good question MAgna Buff. It is the seal that is behind the bottom pulley on the right hand side. Without the car in front of me I think it must be the timingcover seal. It isn't the one on the gearbox side. Are they easy enough to do?

It a round seal
just pops out with a lever
pushes in to fit

the side mounts need to be removed

so the motor can tilt down so the
timing pully slides off its keyway

if you dont get the clearence you have to
remove the front and rear mount through bolts

I am going to have a crack at this seal tomorrow. The manual says to use a suitable sealant before pushing the new seal in. What is a suitable sealant?

RTV black or blue
same stuff you use on the rocker cover

dont forget the two little bolts to undo near the top timing cog
they hold the timiing cover on at the head gasket
