Hi guys,

Recently converted my Shorty Pajero to efi using TN magna bits, and Im having a few issues, well not really issues but just little niggley faults.

1) Idle speed - will not regulate its own idle speed, ive buggered around setting the base idle etc but the ISC motor wont open the butterfly as its supposed to, I can hook the ISC straight to the battery and open it manually, and THEN the ECU will take over and close it to the appropriate point, but it fails to open it...
ECU returns fault code = Motor Position Sensor Faulty

2) Base Timing - I have set the base timing as per the book with the check connector shorted etc, but it fails to wind in any advance, it stays set on base timing regardless and is a pig to drive, uses too much fuel etc. I have wound the dizzy round to about 15 Deg BTDC and its much nicer to drive, heaps more power and uses less fuel but then the ECU returns fault code = Crank Angle Sensor

3) Fuel Pump - I cant for the life of me remember when I had the donor magna running if the fuel pump ran constantly or if it primed and then shut off. I would imagine that it should switch on with the key in the run position till the fuel system was primed and had pressure, then switch off until the engine was started, but it runs constantly, regardless if the engine is going or not... Is this correct???

4) The Black/Red Wire - I have an extra wire left over, its quite thick, about 6mm and is Black with a red trace, i have looked on the wiring diag I have and it isnt realy clear where it goes... It has +12v on it when the car is running, it splices into the Black/Yellow wire from the Ign Sw, and provides power to both the ECU (Pin 5) and the Fuel pump relay. Should I have this connected somewhere? Should I just chop it off? Or splice it in where my other Ign sources come from???

5) The other issue ive had is O2 Sensor fault code in the ECU, i originally thought it wasnt getting hot enough mounted where I had it, as it wasnt giving off a voltage, but I removed it and gently cleaned it on the bench grinder with the wire wheel and it seems to be functioning correctly, I have also connected and AFR meter to it just to make sure its working corrcetly.

Sorry for the long first post but here are some photos of the conversion for interest sake.

Engine all in and running, modded the plenum and the thermostat housing, shortened the fuel rail and moved the inlet, Custom surge tank under the back seat utilising the factory magna pump and a low pressure lift pump.

Upgraded (?) the factory gauges to speco's and got rid of the silly slop-o-meter inplace of a water temp gauge. Also AFR meter hanging out temporarily :-)

1) Idle speed -
ECU returns fault code = Motor Position Sensor Faulty
--to test the stepper motor undo it of the throttle body
and it should move when you start the motor

2) Base Timing - - 5 degrees shorted or 13 degrees with everything connected

3) Fuel Pump --- Is the fuel relay wired into the system working ?

4) The Black/Red Wire--- dont know ?

5) O2 Sensor fault code in the ECU,
---the least of your worries .

Tried that, done all the friging around that the service manual tells U to do, test this, probe that, set base idle, etc etc, but it will not move. Like I said, I can hook the Idle motor to the battery and extend it as the ECU should and the ECU will retract it when the engine is started, but it will not extend it its self. I have tried 2 ISC assembly's.

2) Base Timing - - 5 degrees shorted or 13 degrees with everything connected

done that, shorted the connector, set the base timing, remove the connector timing should advance to 13 deg. Doesnt. Just sits there on 5Deg. Have checked the Thermo sender for the ECU and its fine, all its reading check right. Have checked the TPS and its set fine, my thoughts were the O2 sensor not working may lock it to base timing.

3) Fuel Pump --- Is the fuel relay wired into the system working ?

Uses the factory fuel pump relay, even uses the factory fuel pump... Is it supposed to sw off if the Ign is on but the Engine is not running??? If someone can confirm this I can do some probing from there as to why its not.

Yes, it should only pump if the engine is running or the starter is cranking. It should switch off if the engine is not running. (you wouldn't want it to continue pumping in the event of a crash and/or a split fuel line).

If the Motor Position Sensor (which is in the ISC) has an error the ISC will not activate by itself. Chances are you have a faulty one. Try getting a known good one.
