Hi
I was given a fusion sub box with two fusion 12" 600w subs for christmas and also 2 fusion 12" 600w subs without boxes aswell for christmas. My question is.... Would they be worth using in my car or should i just get rid of them and buy a different brand (i'm looking at alpine type r 12" subs). Would love to know what the pro's think of these subs. I will write up all the info on the subs tomorrow.

IMO, any bass is better than no bass - my wife's car isn't too bad and it's got a 4" driver inside a factory sub enclosure.

I don't think you'd be able to sell them for any more tomorrow than you could in 12 months, so I reckon you should just use them .

thanks i'm thinking i will just use them to stick with my theme of black with green bits for the car. i want to start my boot install do you think it would be better (sound wise) to make a custom box instead of using the box the subs came with.

Yeah Alpine Type R woofers are not wasting your time over if you have some already that are ok. Thing is - do you like the way the Fusions sound?

If you have 4 woofers and need to save space, you could mount them in a Isobaric box. If you want shear bass and don't care about having a boot, ported boxes should do the trick.

Custom box will usually help get you some great gains.

What amp do you have to run all this?

Thats what I told him to do!

And as i also said to you, when bundle of joy / screaming etc arrives, your not really going to be able to have the stereo cranking anyway....
You can always upgrade the system later on if required.

Magnat - 1990 Toyota Sera with the 4" sub. - http://members.optusnet.com.au/gaconsulting/sera/main.htm

I'm pretty sure the early 1990's MR2 had a similar option.

I'd agree with the above comments, Fusion in the brand aren't known to be the best, but they are certainly not the worst. Also the good thing about the prefab sob/box combo is that they're usually fairly well set up and will generally impress someone who hasn't had a sub before :) However like most brands, Fusion have their really cheap & nasty stuff, but also some better higher end alternatives, so without knowing what you've got it can be hard to make a valued opinion.

In regards to selling them and upgrading.. once something is second hand.. it's second hand :P You won't get much for them especially considering Fusion are often discounted in major outlets anyway, and the Alpine Type R's make not be that much better any way, however you will be spending a lot more money! Also, i think it's pretty rude to sell a christmas gift :P

thanks for the feed back, i have decided to keep the fusion subs in the box and just run with them until they stop working. The fusion are 500w dual coil heavy duty subs 12" if that helps

use it, if it stops working one day, meh it had a good run, i think the alpine is a lot better than the Fusion tho

Use the fusions for now, but the R types are the way to go. I've got two 15" R types and they make my head feel like its about to implode! ITS AWESOME!!! Why go to a rave when you can just go for a drive?

The Fusion equivalent of a 12inch Type R is the PP-SW120. I highly doubt he has these ( due to power rating mentioned ) but I guess you need to compare apples with apples.

It has been reviewed by several independent magazines and Audio bodies which have all said musically, it is a great sounding woofer for the price. It even won best woofer under 150 pounds in the UK for 2008.

Their are many higher quality brands out there for not much more money that people should audition before going with main stream super marketed brands. It is hard for those who are isolated... RRP of around $400 gets you all kinds of excellent woofers from Vibe, Hertz, DD, Boston, ID etc etc.
