right!!

looking at options for booya now.
here's the rundown.

want a moderate amount of noise, mainly quality over "doof doof"
i WILL NOT be replacing the head unit and the DVD player (sony 7" screen and sony DVD/VCD you know player) that use up the two DIN spaces in the dash. i will consider replacing the single 4ch amp, and all speakers, and subs.

right, so i want to know what will fit where.
front doors need either splits or 2/3way 6.5" speakers.
between the two rear bucket seats will be prolly space for a single 10 or 12" sub in a longish box. will place pics of the approx size and location of the sub position if need be.
also what about the rear 6x9's?? should i use / remove?

nothing "too" fancy, but looking at spending around 1000-1500 but NO MORE then 2k for the above components, oh, also a amp too! prolly a 4ch amp?

amp kidna needs to look pretty as it will be in full view from the inside :D

sooo.. make me spend you sound system guru's! :bowrofl:

also can you attach pics of the components too.. or links to em..

SONY anyone? :bowrofl:

See PM but for $1500 you could get....
Boston FS-60 RRP$299 link (http://www.bostonacoustics.com/ca_product.asp?ProductID=67) Very nice splits for the price. What i would do is use your existing 4 channel amp to power the splits. People power these with over 150WRMS so dont think that amp even if bridged to 2 ch will hurt those splits. :D So far your front stage is done for $300.

Rear fill just leave whatever you have their and run it off the deck, even if they are 6x9's. They will fade away under the beautiful notes of the Bostons.

Sub I say go a Boston 10.5lf (http://www.bostonacoustics.com/ca_product.asp?ProductID=95) this thing is mean and only needs a 0.7 cuft sealed box. It will be so much more accurate and louder than your w*%k factor sony 15inch ever was. If you are afraid of the 10, go a 12.5lf (http://www.bostonacoustics.com/ca_product.asp?ProductID=93) like me :D , they need a 1cuft box, sealed. $500 for the 10.5 and $600 for the 12.5.

For amplification of the sub go an Audison SRx2s (http://www.audison.com/default.asp?lang=eng) , 600WRMSx 1 @ 4ohm. Both the above subs can handle up to 1200WRMS so dont worry. It goes for $RRP597. You will be looking at around 140-145db and some very very clean hitting bass.

So $300 + $600 ( if you get the 12.5 ) + $600 = $1500  Their are specials to be had.. you just gotta know where to look to bring that price down.

if you want quality over doof doof, don't look past JL Audio. Expensive but it is some of the best stuff. Fantasic. Find a dealer, have a listen and see what you think.

Cheers,
Cam.

I disagree. I thought the same thing when i set my system up left the stock 6x9s in but as soon as you turn the volume above 20% they just turn to distortion which ruins the rest of the system!, needless to say i disconnected them after 30mins. I then put a set of sony splits in i got off a mate 2nd hand and they are much better. but really just a set of 6" coaxials will do.

ok for looks and quality, lets see how we go

Subs - JL - a amn fine LOOking sub, and one of the best QUALITY subs around
Use 2 12" ones, to keep it simple go for the W3's which are around $480 new, or about $200-250 second hand.

Amp - Alpine V12, any of them in the series, if u want new, then get new, although u can get some of the older ones for good priceces now and they are GOOD amps get a couple of 4 channe MRV-F505's for about $250 a pop.

SPeakers - Alpine Type-X, 6" SPlits, definately go the splits aye, dont just get two way speakers. even wait around another month and alpine will be bringing out their new speaker just above the Type X, which will retail for around $699 the pair. otherwise the Type X's can be picked up fopr around $500 now.

thats just my opinion, try to stick to only a couple of different brands, maybe even get a sponsership (Alpine?).

but if u want others, then for speakers go Focals, or Pioneer Bullet series, amps go crossfire (not TEK series) and subs, go ALpine Type's R (or the new type x ones)

have a good one, and keep us updated, just spill want u want and feel.

man i love car audio. lol

Cheers

oh and just to expand on the rear fill, if ur having the subs in the boot etc, definately go for a set of splits there, not 6x9's, its the much preferred way. the bass from 6x9's may just "fade away with the bostons", but for clarity and quality, a set of splits will go extrememly well above the subs

Why go for splits, you dont need rear fill, all it is is for those in the back seat thats all. Fade knob usually makes the front stage sound louder and doesnt give as much db to the rear so the front goes louder say 30 but the rear dont say only = 15-20 therefore less distortion. Plus i think that 100WRMS per split even if it is from a sony amp will be louder than 15WRMS that the H/U is proabably pumping out. :D
Morel Elate 6, hertz HSK, focal 165, Audison SRx3, PG 8.0:4, Zapco 500M, IDQ V.2, 12w0 etc all stuff you could use but didnt put links up cuz you will proabably go all sony or pioneer or alpine anyways. lol

All you need in the rear is a tiny bit of highs and mostly some mids so that the whingers in the back don't hear just low end bass...

I am running Polk 3way 6x9s in the back off the head unit; faded 3/4 balance to the front stage. In the front seats I can't hear the rear speakers which is the way it should be, but sitting in the back you can still hear vocals very clearly from the front, with a tiny bit of backup from the 6x9s.

Fitting splits in the rear is definately a waste and would be detrimental to the soundstage if anything.

I just noticed your reply Rusty. To continue on what MrChar. and Tek have been saying, the reason we don't bother with upgrading rear fill is exactly that. The rear speakers in an audio system only fill out the rear for people in the back. You don't want them loud at all because they'll drag your stage backwards from the front. What you're experiencing when you turn it up is distortion causes by a lack of power from the amplifier running the rear speakers.

The only two times we ever bother upgrading the rears is if you 1. Often have rear passengers, or 2. you run 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 surround sound. :)

Now, BOosted' BOoya, in answer to your question I would suggest the following based on what info you have told me:

Front Speaker(s): Boston RC620 / Diamond M361 / Hertz HSK 165 / Rainbow SLX 230.03 / Morel Pulse / Phoenix Gold ZR6.5 Comp
Sub(s): JL Audio 12W0-4 / Image Dynamics ID12V.3 / Diamond M312 / Hertx HX 300 / Boston GS1204 / Phoenix Gold R12D
Rear Speaker(s): Hertz ECX-165 / Phoenix Gold R6.0 Coax / Boston FX6
Amplifier(s): Audison SRx3 / Phoenix Gold R8.0:4
Cable: Stinger / Phoenix Gold / Audison

I'll narrow that down if you wish to see my opinion for your system. I could do any of these combo's for you for under $2k. :)

Have you got the bonnet yet? Surely that is of greater need than a sound system??

Rear Speaker(s): Boston FX6

Heya Ben - I agree with FHRX on the above setup. I had teh RC620 Rally Edition and the FX6 Rear speakers (6x9's) in my magna run off a 4 channel Kicker KX600.4 Amp.

And they ROCKED!!!! any one who heard my system will agree!!

As for subs - meh - i am partial to teh kicker Solar Barrick square subs!! and Kicker do a SWEET looking amps!!!

but yeah - kicker may be a touch out of your price range new - but 2nd hand you might get something - just be aware of the risks of 2nd hand stereo gear!!

Oh - did you fix your clips - or does you centre console still attack you while accelerating ;)

if you want more of my opinion on your setup - email me and i will let you know what i think ;) heck - fly me over and i will install it - even - i might just fly over you accomodate me and i will install it - make a weekend of it!!

in the hands of a fibreglasser to replicate the bonnet, ive given him some wicked pics of skyline bonnets, so with a bit of luck, should look like that when finished

Cadence for speakers/amps .. All the way.

Theres 2 types.. the Pro and normal. Pro are all purple and black.. The cheaper versions (which still sound awsome) are Black and Orange.
