Foolishly I bought ramps instead of jacks:oopssign:
Do you think it would be ok to do the adjustment using the factory jack one wheel at a time? Or should I slink off to the mechanic?
Thanks in Advance (tehe)

No problems - just do one side at a time.

Are you adjusting the handbrake from the rear or under the gear shift leaver? If you are adjusting from the rear, do you mind showing pics of how to do so as I am interested to know. thanks
Just go for the adjustment under the middle console.
Open the lid and pull out the insert (watch the wiring for the cigarette lighter) and tighten away!

NO dont "just go to the adjustment under the main console"
This will only end up with stretched cables and you will then be worse off than you are now
First of all, undo the insude adjustment, one at a time jack up and support the car, remove the wheel, adjust the adjuster until the wheel starts to touch the hand brake shoe, back off a little, do same on the other side. You then take up the slack with the inside cable, this is only there to take up the cable slack and not to adjust

Thanks Madmagna, was wondering whether to loosen it first..

Hey Madmagna, why do they have the adjustment there if it's only going to stretch the cables?

If you look behind the rear hub, the cable is attached to a hook. If you tighten inside the cabin all you are doing is stretching that hook and you will get to a point where you won't be able to. The proper way is to adjust from the hub if there is a lot of slack on the cable. That's what I think anyway. Mal?
Yeah i get that, but what's the point of having the adjustment in the cabin at all?

Bulletman is right, when adjusting always loosen the cable off first then adjust at rear brakes then take up the slack.

the adjustment in the cabin is to take up the slack in the cables AFTER you have adjusted the shoes at the hub...like others have said, adjusting it only inside ,stretches the cable and doesnt really adjust the shoes...it is the adjusting wheel INSIDE the hub that does the real adjusting...not the cable...
